Why do you think you need an extended warranty? Warranties in NZ are not worth the money they are written on.

In NZ we have the CGA (Consumer Guarantees Act) which says something should last a reasonable amount of time and if it doesn't it should be fixed/replaced/refunded.

A Reasonable amount of time depends on a lot of things but a PS3 should (In my opinion ) should work without any problems for say 5 Years (or more)

Extended warranties are a piece of mind offering IMO.

If you do not want to go through the hassle of a retailer potentially be willing to go to court with all of the time involved, you can purchase an extended warranty.
However, not all of them are made the same, if you do want to look at them look at what they offer vs what they cost.

For me, I would not buy an extended warranty on a sub $500 digital camera, anything more and I probably would. Especially as there are some extended warranties that cover wear and tear.

There will always be debate over this, and a lot of people will say no, you have the CGA to back you up. But as I said, the process and time involved is not worth it to some people. If someone says yes or no, ask them for their experience. I have mentioned CGA on two occasions when retailers refused to resolve an issue outside the standard warranty period, both came to the party (the fact the goods were really cheap could have been the reason).
I've never had to, or wanted to, take a CGA claim to court.

I took one out on my PS3 - as the laser burnt out just after the year was up, same with my cousin's one.. quite a common issue. the extended warranty at DSE wasn't that much. All outside of warranty repairs for Sony cost $350+ as a standard rate regardless of whats wrong.

Again its the hassle factor. I took mine in, got it repaired outside the 1 yr warranty under the extended warranty - no questions asked.

i think i will go for a extended warranty

the warehouse offers one for 10% of the purchased price and its for 2 years. $68.70 is worth the piece of mind knowing i have warranty for a total of 3 years

$68.70 - for that money you can get some good PS3 games, I wouldn't touch an extended warranty myself. Under the CGA you are covered, this is a good read http://we-fearless-ones.blogspot.com/2009/05/playstation-3-durability-courts-ruling.html

It's the hassle factor. $68 for hassle free repairs otherwise you basically have to fight with the seller to get it fixed

I bet you one call to Sony/Retailer with the link to that article I quoted and they would have it sorted. They won't want to have to drag a Sony rep down to the disputes tribunal for a $50 ( $350 retail ) repair, more of a hassle for them than yourself.
Hey, if you have money to throw away - get an extended warranty. Iv'e been to the tribunal before to recover a debt and it was a breeze.

I agree in principle, but the warehouse doesn't muck around with stuff like that.  They know their responsibilities.

$68 isnt that much money for the hassle free claiming. it cost $30 for the Disputes Tribunal plus all the time you have to waste

for me, time is money and i rather be at work making money than taking time off to argue with them why they should fix my playstation for free

thank you all for the replies
