Has it got any RAM? haha, just kidding. Can't comment on the graphics, not so knowledgeable on ATI cards. Where are you getting it from? Price seems really good!

How long are you wanting to game with it for ? TBH, a laptop does limit your upgrade path in a year or so when the newer games come out wanting a bit more kick to them from your hardware.

The i7 820 cpu and 5850m gpu will power 1600x900 res with decent frame rates with high settings in current games.

Have a look at this for the 5850 (non mobile) version for an indication of fps rates

Oh k thanks for you replies all. Im just wanting it to game for around a year or 2 just so thats its not completely weak on the gaming side.

Whats the difference between GDDR3 and GDDR5 as ive seen a review on the 5850m on notebookcheck and it seems the FPS in games is lower if GDDR3 is used? is this correct and also how would a person (for lack of a better word) Force their GPU to use GDDR5?

Or do i have this completely misunderstood?

GDDR is the type of memory used on/by the GPU (onboard graphics card). GDDR5 is higher clock rate and bandwidth then GDDR3. So yes it's faster than GDDR3 but more expensive of course.

There is no way to force the GPU to use GDDR5 you simply have to buy one that is using GDDR5 memory chips.

Also I just notice the hard drive speed in your spec, imo get 7200rpm HD at least.

If possible a SSD (solid state drive) offers a  even better and a very noticeable performance increase.

Yea I've been looking around Trademe and things for one now if I was to get one would it have to comPletely replace my existing hard drive?also read something about booting windows from the ssd can decrease windows start up times.you reckon it's worth it to upgrade?

Also wanting to upgrade the ram but not too sure how to go about it as I'm not sure if you could mix different ram chips with different speeds. Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
