So I've just downloaded Steam for mac (because Orcon has just brought out a new Ozone service for online gaming) but when I launch the app from the applications folder a message pops up saying 'Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again.' Does anyone know how to know fix this, cause I'm kind of a noob at this? Please help.

Cheers

This is a huge issue, there's tons and tons of threads about this on Steam support. Heaps of ways to get around it - try a cabled connection instead of wifi for example. My fix - try and try over and over again. On the 999th time it worked.

By the way, it's nothing to do with Orcon.

Yeah, I've tried that. Done it about 5 times over wifi and a couple on dsl, actually.  Every time I do this though, it cuts into my monthly data allowance. Where abouts to go to resolve this annoying problem?

All it's doing is trying to install on your local machine. You just have to preservere. It'll get there in the end.

Something to try would be create a new Admin user on your machine. Log into that account and try to install the app there for all users. If it works it should be available for your current user when you log back in.

Seriously though, I had to just keep trying to install it over and over again, it took several dozen tries but it got there. Steam know about it but haven't fixed it yet.

Oh really? Well I'll try the whole create a new mac user account. Might work. If not, i'll just continue to install it... Hopefully the Steam guys fix this annoying issue.

Cheers for your help. Have you installed it on a mac?
