Hi There!

Anyone know of any particularly special deals going on the Slim 320GB PS3. Ideally with a couple of new release games for <$550. I am not overly thrilled at the Move bundles currently being offered, as I have no interest in Move and the resale is barely worth anything.

Best deal at the moment looks to be The Warehouse for $545 with a free game(looks like Gran Turismo 5 or Killzone 3, can't see any others that are part of the bundle)

Otherwise the Warehouse has a 160gb bundle, unfortunately only with titles worth $35, for $445
But you could:
- get a 320gb from Alphacity for $71 or a 500GB from PCOnlineshop for $84
- Sell the old HDD on Trademe for $40-50
= $479 for the 500gb Leaving a bit for a new release, which you could get pretty cheap on CDwow.co.nz or firstgames.co.nz

Very easy upgrade, won't void your warranty. Since you are going straight to a new PS3, it's probably the best time to upgrade the HDD.

Otherwise, if you wanted an original 320gb one, the Christmas sales should be bringing a few bundles. I got my original a few Christmas ago, with 2 new releases: Ghostbusters and Little Big Planet at the time

Any ideas what the "selected games" are?

Any platinum game. I know because I bought one right before the price drop Yell. Personally I wouldn't spend an extra $100 to get the 320gb, they are so easy to upgrade spend the extra money on a 500gb+ then buy an enclosure for the original 160gb and you'll have a handy external as well.

Ugh, what a shame. Hmm not sure now what to do. Perhaps wait, perhaps bite the bullet.

Well, changing the HDD voids the warranty, and whilst I have done this previously (I have a PS3 with a 500GB HDD) I am not that keen to do it again, whilst it's under warranty.

Replacing the HDD voids the warranty.. I don't think so

The instructions for how to do this is in the User Manual.. Its very simple and it is easy.

(Check the manual)

Actually you are correct, I should have known this.

I am thinking perhaps I should buy the 160GB and move the 500GB from my old unit into the new unit and this will save me moving data etc across right? It will move the entire config to my new unit?

Looking at the 160GB doesn't seem worth it. It's $90 cheaper, doesn't have anything bundled with it, and has less capacity. HDD alone must be close to $90.

$90 will get you a 500gb HDD probably more if you look around.

Which deal for the PS3 are you looking at btw?

Right but for that $90 you get the bigger HDD (Difference between 320/500gb hardly noticeable), but you also get the move (Harvey Normans $518), thought I'd rather either get 2 new or recent releases or a new release and a platinum game.

Fair enough. Just to make you feel better about I bought my 160gb bundled with an extra controller and a platinum game for $550 about a week before the price drop. So in my eyes your getting a great deal regardless.
