Hi all,

I've tried searching for the answer to this question because I'm sure there are quite a few people with this issue, but I haven't found a helpful and easy to understand answer. I'm a real noob when it comes to doing this and it's the first time I have had to delve this far into the settings of my router. If you can help, please keep this in mind and keep the language simple :)

Issue: currently my NAT setting is set to strict on my xbox 360. I purchased MW3 and am finding it almost impossible to search for games successfully. To get a game, I have to join sessions that friends or gamers I've played recently are currently in. Frustrating!

ISP: Telecom
Modem Type: Thomson TG585v8
Connection: Wireless

A friend suggested the following steps
1. Log into router settings
2. Go to Toolbox
3. Go to Game & Application Sharing
4. Create a new game or application
5. Enter the following port details:

TCP/UDP 88-88
TCP/UDP 3074-3074
TCP/UDP 53-53
TCP/UDP 80-80

6. Select YES for Use UPnP and NO for Use Extended Security and save.
7. Assign this game/application to my xbox 360 (he advised to find out the Mac Address to go to Settings > Network Settings > Network Configuration on my xbox 360 console).
8. Run a connection test on the xbox 360 console. NAT type should now be open.

I did this but it still says strict :(

Any help with this would be much appreciated! It's driving me nuts having to play game modes that other friends are playing just because I can't search for my own game.

Keen to play some Ground War.

Thanks

You shouldn't need the port forwards if UPNP is working properly.

I would try undoing all the other steps and just do 6.

Also I would fully reboot the router after saving this change.

For my belkin the only way I could get an open mat was to turn upnp off.

Many Thomson and the Belkin model's have crap reputation for gaming, NAT and UPNP issues.

I used to get random NATting/UPnP issues with my Thomson and 360, but found that in the end a reboot fixed it. Never had manual forwards, just enabled UPnP on the router. Do you have a static IP set on your Xbox?

In the end my solution was a better router sadly :/ Went for a WRT320n & a Draytek Vigor 120; best move EVER.
