I cant believe it but I had a gift certificate through fishpond and purchased CSS with four other Source games included. I know it is not cutting edge graphics when compared to today FPS titles however I have not played that game since the old days of lanparties at the local internet cafe however someone told me people still play this game. So I purchased and I hope is as fun as it was in the old days. Im considering getting Counter Strike Glogal Offensive but have anyone here test it is it any good?

I still play CSS occasionally, usually on the Gameplanet servers. Otherwise it seems to have a dwindling community in NZ....

xpd; that is cool you still play CSS occasionally so please tell me is it still protected by VAC2 as I quit playing at some stage due to hackers raging but I dont care any more as for occasional shooting and team playing fun.

http://www.gameplanet.co.nz/servers/

Most players use the Assault map which is set to a short timer which makes for a fast action filled game - its the only map used for that particular server.

Im pretty sure theyre VAC secured, the admins are pretty onto it when it comes to stupid players anyway.

Orcon also run a server but noone seemed to be interested in joining so I gave up on it.

CS:S is still quite big in NZ. I know of dozens of NZ players who play at least daily. In terms of servers the best NZ servers I find are the flickshot.co.nz ones, they have really proactive admins and usually have 40-50 players on them at night.

My retail Counter Strike Source arrived after 26 days of waiting to arrive from Fishpond.
I install it the game and required online connection then when I click to play ofline it saids game is not ready to be played then I tried online and I was required to setup a steam account then once i log into steam....GRRR steam does not let me play the game unless I download over 4GB of files WTF. It appears as it wants to download the game even thought is already in the hard drive.

I got slow broadband....capped ....not too happy I cant even play ofline.

Just wanted to share with you guys that,

Hmm... is it actually downloading tho or just looking like it is ? (check Steam bandwidth monitor)

Otherwise, do you know anyone else with Steam ? Go leach their folder :)

xpd: yes it is actually downloading the game and you are so brilliant about this " do you know anyone else with Steam ? Go leach their folder :) " because in fact I do know someone with steam and CSS.

thanks,

I still play CSS myself, and when my mates and I (rarely) have LANs together its the main game that we play. Its good suits those with older computers and is still epic!
Plus its great if you have memories of LAN'ing CS1.6 back in the day

You can get it for less than $10 regularly on Steam during sales

We mainly play COD:MW at LANs... CSS still gets a look in but not as much as it did pre-COD ;)

Got LAN end of next month, so looking forward to some CSS during that :D

Same for me I remember those days of LAN parties and clubs playing CSS all night.
But if people still play it why not to play it again as I remember how awesome it was CSS. My favorite thing playing CSS was that games were short and intense also challenging when evenly match games.

Good to hear LAN parties still around with modern games Im considering buying MW3 but I worry I would be spending way to much time playing it.. haha,

I use to back when it first came out as a Half life 1 mod then I tried Americas Army online (now up to 3rd release) same game style you die you wait for round to end just not as quick as CC is.
