I can't bring myself to play the new remake of syndicate as a first person shooter, I just can't, no matter how it reviews.

I did however hear another gaming company was going to remake it with upgraded graphics and gameplay and I was curious what other games were already out that played much the same way as Syndicate? I really liked the top down nature of the original?

Cheers

There was a group of fans that had developed an engine that used the original Syndicate files to update it...but cant find the link now :( I may still have the download somewhere at home...will link it if I can find the site again.

I still play the original occasionally via WinUAE....

I want to give the new FPS version a go but dont know anyone with it to borrow it from (PS3) - aspects of it appeal :)

Another game Id love to see updated for the newer systems is Escape From Colditz - loved it on the Amiga, found someone who re-coded it for Windows/PSP with some needed changes, but to have the gfx etc updated as well without touching the overall gameplay would rock.

And thats unfortunately where most remakes fall over... they update everything inc gameplay to what they think people want and it kills the game...

Yeah, and in Syndicate's case it bears no resemblance to the original bar the vaguest thread of story concept.  I get the impression they wanted to take what would otherwise be a same\same FPS title and give it enough gameplay twists to make it stand out, but either ran out of time or money... or both. The name is their selling point tho.

it's not a remake. It's more of a sequal using an utterly different kind of gameplay.

Pretty average reviews.

Thoroughly enjoyed the original back on the Amiga though.
