I just had a call from Xnet to say I could go on a new plan, because I use ~80GB a month. The plan is $1.50/gb and free between 12pm-8am. Is this a start to the speed problem?

That's what I've heard from Maverick a couple of weeks ago. It seems to be official now...

The idea is really to level the utilisation moving the heaving peering to off peak times.

I like that, and it probably means that you should not expect good speed after midnight if lots of people do their downloads then.
Their sign-up page allows you to go only to 50Mbps, so I suspect that is the threshold for "normal" users?

Is this plan on the X-Net website? If so, I can't find it.

Does anyone know if:
A) This plan is open to anyone (or just high usage clients)?
B) The 'unlimited' users will be in a seperate bandwidth pool during 'unlimited' hours?
C) Is this plan available for Fusion clients?

To my knowledge they rang me because i sent them an email, saying my speed was slow. I guess they saw I was a high user, (~80GB) and rang to offer me a new plan. I am on fusion as well. Not sure if this was to be made public or not, but oh well ;)

Does this mean that the peak speeds will be slightly better (As in 9 minutes to load 1 minute video instead of 10 minutes to load 1 minute video) and that the few hours I do get good enough speeds to stream (Midnight to 2/3am) will slow to a crawl and enter the peak category?

Your lifestyle dictactes that 12am to 2am is your streaming hours, but peak time is really before midnight, when the majority of people come home and try to access their emails, entertainment and online gaming.

The idea is to create an incentive to heavy download users to move their traffic to off peak time. Currently you probably will see a bell curve in terms of traffic. For any ISP buying bandwidth to supply to users at peak time means a lot of unused bandwidth during the day and offpeak times.

By moving the heavy downloads to those other times it is easier to manage available bandwidth and plan for increases.

I'll admit that my download habits have dropped a lot in the past 6 months, but in any case, where do I sign up for this new plan ? Im keen

I can quite happily leave any downloads to wait till midnight.

What do you mean? Its not my lifestyle making me use the internet at that time its XNet. If my lifestyle had any say it would be around 3pm-10pm during peak time.

Well, the way you wrote it I had the impression that your preferred time was between 12am and 2am - it wasn't clear that it wasn't a personal option.
