I am using my DSL-AC68U, connected to the ONT, for WAN and LAN.  I would also like telephony; but for this, it seems I need the cheapo fibre modem Slingshot sent to me, which has RJ11 connections and configurable SIP etc.

How do I go about subcontracting telephony to the Slingshot modem?

Thanks for your help!

Get something like a Cisco SPA112. I use one with 2Talk. Router is the RT-AC68U in my case. The SPA112 et al should be fine with pretty much any router.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Appreciate the recommendation.  I may yet shell out for a Cisco, but would prefer to enslave the second modem (=free solution!).  Any thoughts on this?

I'm pretty sure this was already discussed in your original thread about your router.. There are plenty of threads on here discussing this type of setup which *may* work if you place the other router behind your existing router and ensure that things that may mess with SIP such as a SIP ALG are turned off.

Thanks for further advice.

After surfing through other posts on the question, I have done the following:

1.  Removed the WAN service on Slingshot's modem (the only way to disable VLAN); and

2.  Disabled SIP passthrough on the ASUS.

The ASUS is plugged into the other modem from LAN to WAN; phone into RJ11 on the Slingshot modem.

Disconnect signal continues after rebooting.

Further advice?  Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.

Get an actual voip phone or an ATA device. The modem you have has probably been setup to prevent people using it in other ways.

Time to find a new industry!

Still looking to get this sorted? I managed to get a similar setup running recently with a friend's Slingshot connection. The router was a Tripleplay 150, I think. Which Slingshot router do you have?

Hi all, thanks for help with this one.

In the end I ran a CISCO SPA112 off the ASUS; all working as it should, and the Tripleplay (rather than its hapless owner) is now going spare :).
