May want to expand a bit more..... you want a VPN to your own connection, or to be able to run one for accessing geoblocked sites etc via a 3rd party ?
If to own connection, then Fritz units have the ability to do so.

More of the geo side of things. I have a mate that's moved to the states and we keep in touch by doing a watch party while we hang out but there are things he can get access to that I can't being in New Zealand

Oh thanks for the heads up and letting me know!
if you have an old pc laying around and you want to give it ago, pfsense is an option for you to build your own router/firewall and you can setup vpns on them such as proton or many others.
give it a go, it can be fun a challenge, if you like it sweet, if it doesn't work at you're expecting it to then you can turn the vpn off and tinker with pfsense or just plug your old router back in
100's of vids on youtube on how you can install and configure pfsense as well as a few geekzoners [including myself] that can help you out if you get stuck
