Hi, I have 2degrees issued FritzBox, which is great but I'm looking to upgrade my router to WiFi 6. I've seen several Trustpower issued EERO 6 modems for sale pretty cheap 2nd hand but unused. I got one but am unable to get it working on 2degrees Fibre. The EERO knows it's a Trustpower one because the App adds "Provided by Trustpower" after registering the modem. I've followed the PPPoE instructions but can't get a connection. I wonder if there is anything in there blocking it from being used with other ISP. Is it possible that it's 'locked' to Trustpower?

In addition to the PPPOE settings, you will also need to set VLAN tagging to 10 for 2D, assuming it's not firmware locked to Trustpower

Fibre?

If you have a Fibre connection, use these settings:

  • WAN Connection Type: DHCP (Automatic IP/Dynamic IP/IP over Ethernet)
  • 802.1Q: Enabled
  • VLAN ID (802.1Q): 10
  • 802.1P (Priority): 0
  • IP Version: IPv4 or IPv6
  • MTU Size: 1492 or 1500
  • NAT: Enabled
  • NAT: Enabled

MTU Size for DHCP/IPoE should be 1500

MTU Size for PPPoE should be 1492.

They're not locked down to Trustpower just setup with Trustpower specific settings (DHCP, VLAN 10).

They're a bit annoying to change configuration as they're all "cloud managed", you need to have a working internet connection in order for you to be able to change any settings.

I'd suggest going to a friends/family members thats on Trustpower or another provider that uses DHCP and VLAN 10, connect it to their ONT, change the settings to PPPoE (also making sure you've entered the correct username/password) and then plug it back into your ONT.

2Degrees supposedly now accept DHCP vlan 10.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

I thought this was only the case on recently provisioned (in the Vocus stack rather than the Snap one) lines?

Yes it looks like that is the case. I've had some comms from 2D support and was told I'm on the 'old' system, so will need to move my account to the new system which they have nicknamed "Tahi". Ironically if I do move my account to their new system, I will get a Orbi Wi-Fi6 router anyway, so the EERO wouldn't be needed :-).....
