Hey all, I've port forwarded in the past without issue but this is the first time its given me trouble... I'm using contact as an ISP on their fibre plan and am attempting to forward port 25565 so friends can connect to a server i'm hosting. Below are the settings i'm using:

 

 

 

 

 

Port checker says that the port is open and i've tried toggling the firewall to see if that fixes it. 

 

I'd appreciate if anyone had advice (past changing my isp or to simply not port forward)

Contact have CG-NAT so you won't be able to port forward.

 

CG-NAT means you do not have a public IP address.

 

Instead, you could use Tailscale https://tailscale.com/ with named access or what I personally use for playing online games (retro ones) is Zerotier (https://www.zerotier.com/)

Hey! thanks for the quick reply. I actually just asked contact whether port forwarding was possible on their networks and whether they used cgnat and they explicitly said yes, portforwarding is possible and no they dont use cgnat...

Compare the IP address of your router to what is displayed on https://4.icanhazip.com and that’ll tell you straight away. If they’re different then CG-NAT.

if you WAN IP is 100.xx.xx.,xx it is CG-NAT

@nztim unless if you’re with MyRepublic when you get a 192.168.xxx.xxx IP which did screw things up a few times.

MR is just special :)

On another note I installed Starlink for a client a few days ago and forgot to put the Starlink modem into Bypass mode alas it gave a DHCP lease to the SonicWALL with the same 192.168.1 network as the LAN. Things didn’t end well.

If you stuck with CGNAT, use ngrok. It works well.
