I must have read most of the posts on this subject and the guide released by Geekzone but I still can't get Internet over BT to work.
1. My Bluetooth dongle is set for 192.168.0.1 on a WinXP SP2 PC.
2. My LAN is 192.168.0.5 on same PC
3. My cable modem is set for ICS on same PC
4. On the Axim, these services are available: File Transfer, Information Exchange, Serial Port, Personal Network Server and Audio Gateway.
5. On my PC, these services are available: Audio Gateway, Bluetooth Serial Port, File Transfer, Network Access and OBEX Object Push.
6. Over BT, I can view the files on the Axim as a folder in my Bluetooth Neighbourhood once I connect using Network Access.
7. Using vxUtil on the Axim, I can't ping 192.168.0.1, or .5.
8. PIE can't connect.
9. On the Axim, I've set up "Internet via DADZ" and it correctly reports the MAC for the bluetooth dongle on the PC.

But - it won't connect!
"Connection failed. Unable to initiate the bluetooth connection (Error code: 0x81000196)".

Something is strange - you say you can see the files on the Axim when connect using Network Access... But you say later you can't connect. Are you sure you're not just seeing the FTP folder connecting from your computer as a "Files on Axim"?

Anyway, things to consider:

  • Make sure the ICS is connected from your Internet adapter to the Bluetooth adapter
  • Make sure the Bluetooth Network configuration is set to "Allow Internet Access", not "Allow Private Network"
  • Since you have your computer as 192.168.0.5 it sounds to me like somewhere else there will be a 192.168.0.1 already on the network - possibly a router or DSL modem? If so, then I recommend reconfigure your network to another range (192.168.2.x for example) to avoid conflicts
  • Be sure that no software firewall (Zone Alarm, NIS, Windows XP SP2) is blocking the Bluetooth communications
  • Check the guides again and make sure you follow the instructions step-by-step
  • If prompted for a password on your Pocket PC leave blank and check "Remember this password"
