I have a dlink DSL-504t adsl router, sometimes it stays connected to the internet for 2 to 3 hours other times ot only stays connected to the internet for 5 to 1 mins. I have noticed when the internet is not going the adsl light on my router is turned off or just flashing.

I have configured my router and everything, my isp has come around five times and havent found any problem with the cable to the house.

Does anyone have any solutions to my problem as i am unable to go online alot of the time and play oneline. Thanks everyone for your feedback.

Hi, can you post the line stats from the modem, log into it at 10.1.1.1 and go to Status (top tabs) then ADSL (left side button) and tell us what it reports, in particular the modulation mode, SNR ratio, line attenuation and data rate.

Agreed, 504's are old and tired, never a good modem when new.

Also do you have a wired alarm? Are you using correct filters? Are you using the correct filters in the correct locations? When was the last time you checked your home wiring? Does it happen when it's raining only or any time?

It happens at all times of the day but mostly stays off for 3 hours from 5:30 to 8:30 every day, no i havent tried a new modem do you think i need a new modem?

And what would be a good modem to get?

Hi, well first thing I would change the modem, these old modems are only ADSL1 capable, if you check the following link you will be able to confirm if you are in a upgraded ADSL2+ area. If you are in a ADSL2+ area then you potentially should be getting twice your current speeds, however this is an aside from your disconnection issues.

Your line attenuation and noise margins would indicate that your line is essentially ok, but that does not rule out issues relating to erratic noise on the line or an intermittent connection but more likely a non filtered device or alarm that is causing the modem to drop off.

You say you have had a tech check your line and house wiring and state its ok, but can you describe how many phone points, and whats connected to each. Have you done a basic isolation test, ie remove all phones/fax's/sky boxs etc from across the line, do the disconnections still persist.

Yes my area has had adsl+2 installed here, and the tech has come around and said that all the wiring is how it should be, we have 2 phone points one has the router attached with the adsl filter and the other has the phone plugged straight into the phone jack, our sky box is not connected to a phone point.

is this any help?

I had that same model - it started doing odd drop outs and disconnecting - long story short (and much hair pulling later) I replaced it with a Netcomm modem/router and the problem was solved.

I think sadly these older D-Link units just start going bad rather than just expiring outright - I have seen other people report the same problems over the last couple of years.

I note they officially discontinued that model August 2006 - so you would probably benefit from an upgrade.

Hi that router is just that it has no modem function. If you want wireless the again a tp-link unit Will cost around $90 will post a link when I get home

Hi, I missed the fact that you had one phone without a filter, this is very very important, its only POTS (voice/phone/fax) devices that need filters, they must have filters, the modem does not infact need a filter.

It sounds like you only have one phone? If no phone or other analog device is sharing the modem outlet, then simply move that filter to the jack being used for phone. You don't need a filter on the modem itself. Odd that you have a pretty good ADSL signal but it always goes off at certain times of day. What times are people using the phone? You don't have a monitored alarm?

Time to find a new industry!
