Personally I'd recommend looking into either the Ubiquiti UniFi range (USG + UniFi Switch + UniFi Access Point) or even into the Grandstream range unless if you're specifically wanting to learn the Edgerouter.

Just purchased USG+ cheapo switch+ UniFi AP after reading a few of these threads over the past few days - now getting worried I've bitten off more than I can chew :)

Controller request heading your way, then I'm off to re-read the helpful info on here.

Hi, any EdgeOS ideas on this one ?

The chromecast is preventing me from using my region-workarounds when streaming tv programmes from US and UK as it has the google dns servers (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.8.4) hard coded into it. All other devices works fine, and the source device (laptop, phone etc) will stream perfectly well, and even airplay fine, but then when I try to cast the stream to the chromecast, it will not play if there's a region challenge with it.

I've set up the router address allocation so that the chromecast is issued a DHCP static IP mapping against its MAC address, and what i would like to happen is for the router to see that and go "not so fast sonny, i'll take your 8.8.8.8 or your 8.8.8.4, and I'll swap you for a x.x.x.x or a y.y.y.y"

I think I can do this all in the GUI by adding a destination NAT rule, but I get lost pretty quickly.

Anybody able to give this dumbo a way of doing that I might even be able to understand?

Hi All,

Big thank you to @michaelmurfy for the fantastic tutorial and support given to Geekzone users.

We have an ERL v1.9.7+hotfix 4

I would like to DMZ ( Static 1:1 ) from the WAN Eth0 to LAN Eth2

Eth1 is used by a different subnet.

I have created the rule some time ago and the DMZ did not work, I have found a mistake that I have corrected but would like those who know more than me to cast their eye over this to see if there is anything obvious that is incorrect.

This has to be done out of hours as it is in a production environment.

Any pointers appreciated.

I've been playing around with an EdgeRouter PoE trying to get a routed /30 subnet working (from 2degrees), but not having much luck.

On the dashboard my pppoe0 interface has my static IP of 203.86.xxx.xxx/32.
And my 2degrees routed /30 subnet is 111.69.xx.x2/30

First step is I added 111.69.xx.x3/30 and 111.69.xx.x4/30 as manual IPs to the eth0 interface.
Then added a firewall rule in WAN_LOCAL, to allow icmp ping to eth0.

Great, I can then ping from an external location to 111.69.xx.x3 (first IP), but not the 2nd? (weird?)

The next step is I need some form of 1:1 NAT to get 1 of these IP's going to a raspberry ip (connected to switch on eth2), lets say on internal IP 10.0.0.123.
This is where I'm stuck, and not sure what to do next?

Ignore my post above, as I've got my /30 subnet working on an EdgeRouter PoE. Basic test worked of opening port 443 on a secondary public IP, forwarding to an internal server on LAN.

Needed to add the /30 IPs to the eth0 interface, then setup Destination NAT (e.g. port 443 public IP translate to internal IP on lan).
And create a WAN_IN firewall rule for port 443.

All working.

Go Wireless are now selling the Edgerouter 4 which is a decent upgrade to the (already great) Edgerouter Lite: https://www.gowifi.co.nz/routers/ubiquiti_edge_router_4_port.html

When mine arrives I'll be updating this guide.

I've updated the guide to reflect the setup process on newer firmware. My new Edgerouter 4 has arrived today and I have set it up, have not been this excited to get a new product in a while:

When I've had a bit more of a play around with it I'll post a review however I must give a huge thanks Go Wireless for supporting me and allowing me to keep these guides updated and help you guys. Without them, there will honestly be no guide as my router configuration is way too complex to just wipe all the time.

Initial impressions however - this router is damn fast. The UI is very very responsive (much better than the Lite) and configuration commits hardly take any time at all. I've only been using it for a few hours but so far have been very impressed with it (just as I was with the ERL when I first got it). In my personal opinion if you want an incredibly fast router for UFB then this is the one to go for and the price difference between the Edgerouter Lite and the Edgerouter 4 is fully justified.

If you're sitting on the edge and need a better router you can purchase one here.
