sbiddle: The fact you're not getting higher sync speeds would indicate you're cabinetised and need moving back to a wholesale connection (you may need to pay more) or you're outside the cabinet coverage area and connected to the exchange, in which case you won't be able to do anything to improve the sync.

That diag info tells me that, as sbiddle suggested, you are in fact on a Slingshot LLU circuit.

Because the vast majority of NZers are on a Chorus wholesale'd connection, we provide two different tunings on the DrayTek NZ download page. The "Recommended" works best for those on Ikanos chipsets (Chorus wholesale gear in cabinets and upgraded exchanges), while the "Alternative" is for those still on Broadcom chipsets (non-upgraded exchanges).

Unfortunately we don't have the resource to test each modem on every different type of LLU circuit, so your only options is trial-and-error of all the different Annex A firmwares - you're currently running Standard. Alternatively, as suggested by sbiddle, you can ask to be moved back to a Chorus circuit. This will give you better speed but cost you more.

Yes, but they'll likely charge you a new connection fee (as you aren't technically connected to the Chorus network).

~8Mbit seems low for 33dB attenuation with 6dB noise margin.

Attenuation is the signal loss, lower is better

Noise margin the amount of the frequency range that is not used that acts as a buffer against interference causing disconnection. Lower is better for sync rate but worse for stability. Chorus use 12dB, others use 6dB on their own gear, Telstraclear uses 9dB on their own gear iirc.

I wouldn't expect a big change in downstream sync speed if you changed to an ISP that would use a Chorus connection to provide the service and noise margin is going to go up to 12dB.

Have you looked into the quality of house wiring? A master filter may help cut out reflections from daisy chained phone jacks.

As a test I would borrow a mates modem or acquire a Dynalink RTA1320 or TL Link TD-8840 (non T version) which can often be purchased for peanuts on trademe and see what line rates you get with an alternative modem.

On the previous page I've already posted stats from another modem (it was a TD-8840, and the ISP at the time was Orcon just before we recently switched to SS).

And I also said that the internal wiring has all been redone and a master splitter installed. I think if there is a wiring problem it must be between the street and the demarc.
