Hi Steve but to extend the cat5e to the comms room down the riser is a different (read significantly less) job than running fibre all the way through.

Yea I think running to the riser is not a problem because in reality you will be exceeding 100m in most apartments. At least if they have a Cat5e to the riser then there is no problem. Although in saying that, how much room is there in a riser for 10+ ONT's. Really should be to a bit of a room/cupboard.

Utimately the problem is architects still refuse to acknowledge data needs and very very rarely do they talk to anyone in regards to their plans for data.

The only site I have seen a really on to it architect was when we did the Ezibuy head office which included a mini data center essentially. This only happened because Ezibuy themselves did all the planning for data.
Worst one I have seen is a reitrement village where the 'electrical engineer' spec'd a single cabinet in a complex that is around 500m long and each room had a Cat 6 home run back to this cabinet to 'future proof' the apartments for data. We quite literally laughed at them at the original planning meetings.
