Just for the record, you ran /Windows/welcome on your iPAQ. And you remove the DNS, and Default Gateway values from your PC, correct?

I have also noticed that with my setup it can take longer, upto maybe 3 or 4 minutes for the correct values to get transfered to the iPAQ. Another thing to be aware of is with my F8T001 USB adapter, it seems that only one (1) iPAQ can connect to the Network adapter at a time.

Hmm, Lets see I'm up over?
So maybe I'm wrong in this, you'll have to let me know. Sorry but I have no idea of where to go to find out.

But would this work? http://www.fostersbeer.com/

Or do you have your own ?

Thanks
David

Guys,
I've followed the forum with some interest. It was great to see so much help give to over come a blue tooth problem.

Well Done!!

Indeed the help also was of use to me in being able to get on the internet via bluetooth.

I've a Ipaq 3970
Win 2 K Compaq Desktop
Belkin F8T001 Bluetooth adapter

My question is: At present I need to manually tell the Ipaq 3970 to sync (via active sync) by going into the bluetooth menue on the pocket pc and selecting "start active sync".

IS there a way of having it automatically connect and sync when I'm within range???

Any advise or help would be great.

Jornadaman

Hello Jornadaman!

I'm not aware of this kind of feature in the current H3970 implementation. I'd imagine a software with auto-discovery could enable this, but haven't found one yet...

Hello Jornadaman;
I would also agree with Mauricio Freitas, to the best of my knowlage this is wishful thinking on the part of users. :-) For what it may be worth I did however submit a request for this feature tonight to microsoft. Not that I would hold my breath waiting on it. :-) I've heard from enough people, wanting this feature. With my 802.11b connection, I can start activesync and keep it going the entire time I am in my home. Perhaps if I was in and out of the house all day, I would see more of a need for this.

You can use the Contact item in the menu... It's the easier. Or e-mail to freitasm at geekzone.co.nz if you need to attach something (sorry I put at to confuse the robots harvesting e-mails for spam).

Interesting thread...

I have a similar problem connecting my 3970 through my MSI BT USB adapter.

I can get a Network Aceess connection through the BT Manager on the iPAQ, but when I try to use the PIE or MSN it either tries to dialup my T68i or if I set it to "work settings" for all and tick the "This network connects to the internet", I then get an error message saying "unable to connect with current settings"

Is there anything I am doing wrong or any other settings I need to do to browse the net through the 3970?

My PC connects to the net though an ethernet card onto cable.

The only other issue I currently have is that I cannot get Microsoft ActiveSync to 'see' the mapped serial ports to make the connection to the 3970 through BT. Is there anyway to bypass the "getting connected" wizard and set the COM parts manually to the correct one?

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Cheers,

Mark

First thing you'll have to check is if you can "see" a network connection. Download the very good VxUtil from http://www.cam.com/windowsce.html.

Connect to the Bluetooth LAN service as described in our guidem, and use VxUtil to PING www.dhl.com

1.Can it find the host IP (DNS working ok)?
2.If it can find the host IP, can it PING (route ok)?
3.Can you PING DHL on its address 199.40.254.165 (connectivity ok)?

If you answer yes to all these then you may have a problem with your browser. In this case run welcome.exe from your \windows folder in your Pocket PC.

If you answered "no" to these questions then check the Bluetooth configuration.

1.Are the devices paired?
2.Are the services available (start)?
3.Is ICS enabled?
4.Is the Bluetooth IP address the 192.168.0.1 assigned by ICS?
5.Do you need to define a default gateway?
6.Do you need to define a DNS address?

I think this cover very much everything. Last night I rebuild my Windows 2000 machine, installed the Bluetooth software, paired and connected, without any problem, just following the same steps as described in our guides... Give it a go!

To bypass the Getting Connected wizard, click cancel, then right click on the tray ActiveSync icon, select connection settings..., and choose the com port. The port must be between 1 and 9.

David,

I followed your advice and installed the Widcomm CE BT software to my 3970 which worked a TREAT and I can now connect to the NET through my activesync connection (but not Network Access, but will work on that.)

I have a question on the Widcom software. It now allows me to dialup numbers in contacts to my T68i mobile :) The trouble is that I have a business SIM on Orange that needs to dial a '9' or dial the +44 to get an outside line. The BT dialer software does not recognise the +44 and just dials 44 which won't work.

Anyway around this?

Cheers,

Klee

Well I don't have a mobile phone. But have you looked at | Start (menu) | Settings | Connections | Connections (icon) | Dialing Locations | Dialing Patterns... | and tried a 9,G

That would be the simple answer, if it works.

Any luck getting that Network Access part to work with the new Widcomm software on the 3970? I just installed it today, but can't get the Network Access to work either. I really like it when the NetFront web browser is set up to automatically connect to the Network Access profile and I don't have to fiddle with turning it on manually.
