halatau: are you saying Tdgeek that if I cant see the static IP address under status>WAN>network>settings>TNZ_VDSL>IP address then it hasn't been assigned? because at the moment it is my public address and that isn't the same as my old static IP address

Not being at work I cannot tell, I am not familiar with that modem, but the public IP in the modem should be the one Spark gave you, dynamic, or static. but PM me your old phone number, the new phone number and I will find out the Static IP status.

The potential confusions here are:

1. Does the Xbox need an ISP Static IP, e.g. 219.89.xxx.xxx (or other ranges we use) or a local static IP e.g. 192.168.1. xxx

2. Were you assigned a Static IP by Spark, or do you assume you have one as the IP never changed? Most ISP's dynamics are/were sticky, and we, like others are migrating to true dynamics, which will change on a modem restart. That process is underway as we speak and should be completed in days.

Other Xbox literate users here, can anyone answer the point 1?  I don't want to change/fix the OP's static issue if that is not required or it makes unintended changes, i.e. lets keep on the same page

Cheers

Hey thanks again for all the help!

I PMed you my numbers, hopefully that helps.

Point 1 - is what im confused about, my last modem it seemed to help assigning a static IP address to the xbox LAN1 port, but since this is a different modem...from the information I'm getting it seems that's not the case...

Point 2 - I have called spark last week when I switched over to vdsl and they confirmed the old static Ip is still in use, but I'm going to confirm that again this morning. My old static Ip address was 219.89.xxx.xxx but my current which states on the status>wan>settings is 210.86.xxx.xxx and that's the same one when I type into http://whatismyipaddress.com/

read my post above again

this modem cannot assign a static ip address to any of the devices connected to it, it doesnt have that functionality, you have to asign the static LAN ip address on the device its self. re read the above posts on how to do this.

then as above you can use port forwarding again as described above. you just need to confirm that IP address you are on is your static one.

THe rest of the info i believe has already been provided

There seems to be a lot of confusion here, so I just thought I would help clarify.

For what you are after you:

DO NOT need a static IP address from spark, this is an unnecessary extra cost. You should not be paying more for this for gaming on your Xbox.

What you NEED is to configure a local static IP address on your Xbox. This can be done by yourself without even talking to Spark or paying any more per month.

After you have configured a local static IP address you need to port forward on your router, to the local static IP address configured on your Xbox. Xeon has given you instructions to do this.

Again:

YOU DO NOT NEED a static IP address from Spark, this will make absolutely no difference to your gaming on the Xbox.

Hopefully that makes sense, if you're still confused send me a PM with your number and I will call you. Some times it is easier to explain over the phone.

Its mainly to do with destiny and xbox, don't have issues connecting to any other games just destiny, from the information gathered around the interwebs most say get a static Ip and port forward using that static ip address, which I have done now thanks to the people on this forum and its done the trick.

OK so if your problem is Destiny there is no reason to be gathering information "around the interwebz", Bungie have a great guide https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/11931.  If that doesn't help get a PS4 :-)

I understand this, what WILL have helped is the port forwarding, not the public static IP you paid Spark for.

I can tell you as a certified network engineer that getting a Static IP from Spark should not have helped in the slightest. Spark does not do carrier grade NAT so I cannot see any reason for getting a static IP for Destiny or the Xbox.

I get a good connection to the Destiny servers with port forwarding.  Also don't use wifi from your Xbox.
