As I stated that ADSL2 is being rolled out as trials in certain area's

Its not a trial, its a full on upgrade. And being ADSL2+ if you are within the appropriate line attenuation/noise parameters you can expect speeds upto 24Mb/s as per the ADSL2+ standard.

"up to" 24Mbps means in practical terms that average users will get slight improvements in the line speed, and everyone else will only notice that problems with frequent disconnections (due to fluctuating noise margins) suddenly become problems with gradual slowdown over the day because ADSL2+ responds to noise by slowing down to a more sustainable speed. Unfortunately ADSL2+ does not speed up again if there is a hard-to-find fault on the line or modem, so you may find your connection gradually gets slower and then stays 64kbps for the rest of the day until you reboot the modem or get the fault repaired.

Regardless of the performance of ADSL2+, we still need more bandwidth allocated by telecom! How many ADSL users can download at the full line speed their modem connects at? To start with, 128kbps upstream limits your downloading to about 4Mbps already because sending ACK packets too slowly.

Time to find a new industry!

Anyone think my line should be at 24mbps?

I'm on ihug bb3 on Howick exchange, the plan should allow me to be on 24mbps/128kbps... ADSL2+ got switched on 5 Feb 08 (yes, I've been checking my router every day during Feburary)

There are options for fullspeed connections, all/most internet providers offer them (often at a cost).

It sounds like you have D-link 504t, 502t or other D-link router sold prior to August 2007.
There are issues with the firmware on these routers that cause a speedlimit on the router with adsl 2.0 that you are seeing.

Telecom have new firmware that will fix this issue but after contacting them they have said that there are no plans to release the firmware update until adsl 2.0 becomes oficially available. Although adsl 2.0 is enabled in a large number of exchanges around the country it is not an official product so they have no support for it at this stage.

Was told that using the latest firmware from the D-Link website may fix the problem but that this will void the warranty on the router if you have one.

Using DSL-504T Gen I, got it Jan 2007.

I already knew about speed-limiting, but the ihug email says nothing about it (I have told them about my router that they supplied.)

By the looks of things, I should be using the latest firmware.

The firmware needed to overcome the problem is not avaiable for download from anywhere - I guarantee that you do not have it unless someone internally from Telecom has given it to you.

Although the tech said I should give the firmware from D-Link a try I could not find a new version for NZ from the D-Link website.
New releases are available for Austrailia but it specifically states that these updates will only work for Australia - so I din't want to risk it.

The speed limit of 7547 that you are seeing (if you have a d-link router) is definitely firmware related.
