Depending on where Comms cabinet/size of house etc you might be able just to set the downstairs AP to client mode if determined not to run cable or powerline adapters
If the clients can reach another AP ok their throughput will be increased and will waste less radio frequency

The Comms cabinet ap (base) and the downstairs ap (client) is is the garage, just on opposite ends. So far everything appears to be working fine. I will do some tests this weekend.

whats the throughput like? what band did you use for the mesh?

working as in i can talk to all my devices and they can talk to everything it needs to. Iam using 5Ghz, channel 44. Will test the throughput later tonight or in the weekend

So I have found that wifi signal has difficulty providing good coverage upstairs so I have the upstairs and downstairs e400 configured with the same ssid. I need to tweak the settings a bit so that the devices seamlessly connect to the downstairs ap as at the moment the connection goes wonky. The mesh network works fine but I have found occasionally the e400 becomes unstable. I will raise a support ticket and get them to review the issue.

We all want to see iPerf (jPerf makes it easy). Let's see how much throughput you have over your 'mesh'.

i did a quick test with iPerf and average around 143 Mbits/sec. Since then, i had to change the architecture a bit as the two E400's i have is not providing sufficient coverage of the house on 5Ghz. Iam replacing the mesh network with powerline and using the third E400 to extend my 5Ghz coverage. If this works out well, i will have a brand new xclaim for sale shortly
