You know you want to fly me up to Auckland though ;) but now I am interested to know what your network does look like.

With regards to Odroid cooling, I picked up a heatsink case for my C2 from here:

Expensive, but my C now sits at around 39 - 40, while it was previously 55 - 60 Celcius.

Those cases look damn nice though. @BarTender bought a bunch of These which are damn sexy too. Currently using the $2 case. If you remove the jumper from J1 (and are using the barrel connector for power) you can shave a further ~10*C off the heat.

It is an oDroid XU4 with a Cloudshell. Instructions are on their website or install DietPi and use the built in Cloudshell addon.

For a new build with UFB available: -

What networking cabling is most future proof?

Does it make sense to run conduits and draw wires to strategic locations for running whatever cabling comes next?

For example could we end up with fibre LANs within our homes?

Just go with CAT6, that can go up to 10gbps, up to a distance of about 50 metres.

You wouldn't find many homes with cable runs that long.

Hi Michael!

You don't know me for sure but since I watched your 'Gigapostings' for few weeks I got familar and now I'm a ERL3 owner as well all running at first try. Here in Germany we recently got rid of ISP provided 'mandatory' routers by a legal notice and time had come to split those fancy Fritzes (not bad at all, but becoming more and more a bottleneck in terms of individuality and flexibility).

You and you guys accidently triggered that process (with the picture above) after my browsing through the net on search term "CloudShell 2" (which I own like before running OMV on it). I just logged in here to let you know that lower Temp specifications for TP-Link switches (<40°C) and many UPS (<35°C) in a Rack could significantly reduce their operational life. I highly recommend to keep the inside rack temp below 35°C by fan control.

Concerning 'temptations' I'm sure you are interested in the new Odroid-HC1 or -MC1 as well (jepp, just ordered a Odroid-HC1 a few minutes ago). All guys still looking for a good own build NAS or cloud kit ... just search for 'helios4' from kobol.io - it has 2 GB ECC RAM and 4 drive 'bays'! (No, I'm not commercially involved in recommended items.)

So keep posting the Giganetstuff knowing you're followed for your interesting recommendations who shows quite good technical judgement for high performance at reasonable price.

Looks good I know you put the patch panel above for space reasons but it actually looks good this way especially since the panel isnt a standard 19 inch. I'm looking at replacing my 6RU open cabinet which is a right mess with a free 32RU server rack after we moved offices at work - trying to decide if its overkill or not :)

Nice Setup Michael.

Mines fairly similar. I got only a single VDSL line going to both mine and my sisters place, but the layer2 connection speed is 68meg on a 17a profile. So it hasn't been a problem for either of us. Won't be able to get UFB until end of 2019. I got a SFF sandy bridge pc full of hard disks instead of a seperate NAS and 3 little pi/odroid units.
