I guess if someone on here confirmed that they use a HG659b successfully with an AP, then I would buy a new one.

I'm running an amplifi afi-r in AP mode off a HG659b - zero issues (well apart from things like the hg659b's tiny dhcp reservation table), uptime in the order of months with typically 18 clients (15 of them on wifi), no dropouts

Slight derail to topics, @bignose, a firmware is out early this month that supposedly addresses the DHCP issue, have you tried this?

Excellent, thanks for that feedback.

Noob question: what do you mean by tiny reservation table? I thought the DHCP range was something like 192.168.1.64 to 253?

To get the AP to work with the HG659b, did u change anything in the HG659b settings? Did you assign a static IP to the AP? If so did you set an IP below 192.168.64?

Thanks

Is this for the Spark HG659b? Is it on their web site already?

I'm on the B022 firmware (telecom) - but that came out quite a while back (and vodafone seems to be on b020) - if there's something later than b022 I'd love to here where I can grab it from!

DHCP reservation lets you fix a devices IP address - I use it for things like NAS boxes etc as having their IP change is a hassle, hence why I wish the table was bigger (other option is to statically allocate IPs , but imho dhcp reservation is more elegant - also removes the change of my stuffing up and giving 2 devices the same IP embarassed )

the actual DHCP range is a non-issue

setting up the amplifi was painless - just plug it in, fire up the app and make sure it was in bridge mode and then plugged it's wan port into a hg659b lan port, nothing needed doing on the hg659 (though I did go in and set it to reserve the address once it had obtained a dhcp lease)

Best advice is to buy a better modem/router, it's a known issue on that model and new firmware does not seem to fix the issue. We had the same for both wired and wireless devices and never fixed it, router died eventually and Spark replaced it, the new one has gone 3 weeks so far without the same fault(same firmware installed, latest xx22) but I expect it to reoccur eventually(some people here are on their third modem with Sparks 24 months replacement warranty).

Yes, I did not mention that before.

I am on my 2nd HG659b with Spark.

I have only tried the AP setup on this 2nd device.

The first one just got progressively worse and worse at holding/providing a wifi connection such that continual re-boots were required. Soon as I told Spark by phone what the symptoms were they did not even bother logging in to the device or asking me to re-boot or do 7 handstands in a row; they just said they would send me a new one (so I guess that means they know it is a common fault - wifi failure).
