I wired my 1940s house with CAT 6 throughout. It's a small house so just using the top shelf of a wardrobe as a networking "cabinet". This houses ONT, router, switch, patch panel etc. Only bit I couldn't do myself was was getting power into it, so needed an electrician for that bit.
I agree with everyone who is saying this sort of approach is superior to putting it behind the TV. However, give careful thought as to any noise your networking equipment may make when you decide on a location. Mine is in the master bedroom, which prohibits me from using any equipment with cooling fans as the noise would drive me mental.
My other advice is to install more cable and network ports than you think you'll ever need. I only did 2 going to my main TV location, later put in 2 more, and now could actually use at least one more in that location. Alternatively just run extra cable but don't bother terminating it until needed, this future proofs you a little more without adding as much cost.
