So would the recommendation be:

Given the Profile, when connecting the Draytek Vigor 130, is 8b - I should leave it connected and monitor the speeds over the next 10 days?
- Hopefully, the DLM process will detect the "noise" and adjust accordingly and I should see an improvement in speed (as per the Huawei - Profile 17a)

I've checked the Ethernet Port on the Modem for any signs of dust or bent wires thinking it might be enough to cause issues (considering Cabling is mentioned in most Posts), I'd expect it not to work if it were the case.

Does the Bridging of the Modem affect Speed?
- The DV130 is in bridge/passthrough mode which has my edgerouter do the DHCP to Vodafone.
- The bridging allows the DV130 to sit in front of a firewall/router to create a layer 2 bridge that inserts a VLAN ID of 10, then strips the VLAN tag when handing traffic back to the router.
- According to Draytek - This means that the router/firewall behind the DV130 can simply operate as a PPPoE initiator, DHCP or fixed IP address (service provider dependent) without the added hassle of configuring virtual sub interfaces.

Due to your line length, highly likely 8b will be slightly better than 17a.

the fact that 17a seems faster is not causation but simply coincidence.

Bridging doesn't affect speeds (ok could affect routing but we are talking sync here)

Different modem chipsets will always sync differently. the chipset in the DV130 favors stability over speed.

Matching modem chipset with DSLAM chipsets also goes a long way for compatibility.

i would still recommend getting a NF4V to use as a bridging modem.

You could likely configure the HG659b to bridge aswell.

Just use the Huawei, as its giving you better results

The DV130 needs hardly any configuration
Set to VDSL only
Set VLAN to 10 (if needed) if you want tag removed, leave at zero if you want to pass VLAN tag onto router
Set MPoA to bridge mode
Set the Main IP address to anything not ending in a 1 to make finding it with some tweaking of the ER-X easier

Thats it, if you set anything else you're wasting your time

The above makes the DV130 so great as its so easy to setup to a true bridge that GUI can still be reached via WAN port on router.
But if it slower use something else.

Can't comment on Huawei not used it since ADSL days

Hi Team,

Its a bit disappointing my Speeds are no better than ADSL. With some further digging around I found there is a Cabinet 300m from home, I was told I was on the fringe of 1.9km from the cabinet but have found one closer.

Anyone know if Chorus will move me to a closer cabinet if I raise a ticket with them or do I need to go through Vodafone?

Unrelated but I had a bridging issue that affected speed a few years back.

I had neglected to enable mss tcp clamping,

My connection was rubbish till I enabled it.

I am unsure of the default mode of the erx in this regard.

The bridging is enabled on the Modem and disabled on the Edgerouter - I believe there is a degradation in speed when enabled on the Router. I'll check the Modem though when I get home.

I have read a few comments regarding the Chipset, Sync rates and have read some "Customers-in-the-know" purchase hardware based on their "distance from the cabinet/exchange" and DSLAM values.

I might ring Vodafone and see what they have to say ... whether I can be connected to a closer cabinet (300m down the Road) instead of the Cabinet that's 1.9Km away.

Connecting you to a different cabinet is about as easy as you moving your house down the road - it cannot be done. The cable feeders all follow a path that doesn't change, unless you re-cabled an entire suburb.

The cable from you property will join into hundreds of others and follow a route back to a specific cabinet - unless that bundle is pulled off the poles or dug up, you cannot change where it goes. Moving ISP will make no difference.

my appolgies, i'm juggling alot right now.

What i meant to say is...

no chorus will not the cabinet you are on.

Cabinets and MDF layouts (the physical cables) were designed for phone services rather than broadband. Broadband was a later thought, they tacked cabinets on where possibly rater than feeding direct from exchange.
