So I took the ATV next door to the neighbors to test it. A few beers and 4hrs later of watching Fanpass, and multiple YouTube clips no dropouts. Not one. Confident the ATV was not faulty I decided to take other components out of play to understand what could have been causing the issue.
First step bridge the HG659 and bring my old apple time capsule out of retirement. Bingo, no dropouts with the time capsule performing routing duties. However the time capsule is very old and not up with latest specs (no AC wifi). So I’ve now invested in an Amplifi AFI-R to replace it and it’s been humming along nicely since.
It’s not ideal. I have the Amplifi providing routing duties and Wifi to the main section of the house and a UAP AC PRO providing wifi to the rest of the house that the Amplifi can’t reach on a separate SSID. Next step, sell the UAP and buy another Amplifi AFI-R for the other end of the house. I’d prefer this over using the mesh points as it will allow Ethernet backbone and also provide another 4 Ethernet ports down that end of the house for the PS4 and nVidia Shield in the games room.
Two questions
Anything wrong with my plan above to use two Amplifi AFI-R’s to provide whole house wifi coverage over Ethernet backbone and extra Ethernet ports to a second entertainment room?
