Friends don't let friends buy TP-Link (unless the friend knows you can put a non TP-Link firmware on whatever it is)

TP-Link actually do some pretty good switches. I've deployed a large number of their PoE switches in recent years as they're rock solid and significantly cheaper than anything else on the market.

All my unmanaged 8 and 5 port gigabit TP link switches have been rock solid. Not managed but that is probably why so reliable. Whereas the "linksys cisco" overpriced "smart" switches would need a reboot every few months to keep them going, they would just forget to add new mac addresses to their tables so things would work ok if they didnt move around. I wasnt using any smarts on them, so should have been no different.

I have an unmanaged 24 port TP link gigabit switch. It was very easy to integrate into my 12V UPS system. As that switch uses 12V power internally, and the power supply circuit board is separate from the main circuit board.

Remove power supply board, connect wires to power plug on main board. Add a couple of low ESR capacitors and an inductor that were ratted from an old computer power supply. Easy.

I'd rather TP-Link than netgears over-priced rubbish.

Anyway, I just hooked it up and it seems to be working fine, not that I expected otherwise. We will see how it goes.

If you live next door to PB Tech I guess it's only $20 or so. After they tack on all the extra inflated charges for sending it to my rural address, it is about twice that. I don't recall the exact figure but I did look into it. You people are not making fair price comparisons. Shipping from PB Tech is just as outrageous as from Trade Me dealers. With Aliexpress, the quoted price is what you actually pay. Shipping is free. That makes a big difference.

Thank you @cyril7 for actually answering my question.

because postmen who are delivering your free delivery switch are subsidized by pbtech?

I personally wouldn't trust anything off Aliexpress that plugs in the wall - they simply don't follow NZ electrical standards.

I'm also a little confused with why you would buy a 100Mbit switch from Aliexpress when 1Gbit switches are cheap locally in NZ - for example, this one: https://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?itemID=375927

nevermind standards but half their stuff are not what their specs say and the other half that are, are made of vastly inferior components, workmanship or both. don't ask me how i know ....

its US $10, so thats approx NZ $15 , depending on what conversion rate is used when you pay.

It has a non NZ power pack that needs an (illegal) adaptor , making the power pack wobbly as all hell in the power socket

I wouldnt use it , but the OP seems happy with it.....

Actually, I am happy with it. It's working fine, doing exactly what I want. The power adaptor fits snugly, no issues and perfectly safe. It is much better-made than some of the others. Overall I have had reasonable luck with Aliexpress purchases. Most have performed well.
