okay.. now, this is (very) interesting.

I factory reseted my Google WIFI Nest routers and have configured only one this time in Bridge mode.

It works fine... until I open Popcorn Time. When I do that, I have the same problem as before.

When I close the application, everything goes back to normal (where before I had to restart my PC for things get back to normal)

🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I've just confirmed the issue has been happening again and not only when I open the Popcorn Time app.

Current setup:

1 Mikrotik router

1 Google Nest Router in Bridge mode

Popcorn Time is an illegal streaming app. It uses Torrents behind the scene and also seeds those torrents opening up many connections which can put some load on your router and your connection.

It really sounds like you need to cut your losses and get rid of the Google Nest kit.

A couple of questions..
1. What's your environment like - have you used a wifi scan app on your phone to see if interference is an issue?
2. Have you tried to remove your switch and connect direct to mikrotik?
3. Can you ping test nest router without being connected to mikrotik or anything and see if results are the same?

I have first gen Google WiFi connected to ubnt switch then to pfsense and my pfsense complains that the Google WiFi keeps producing flood alerts:

Host 192.168.2.150 is a Flooder (26 flows sent in 00:03)

But the Google WiFi I have and have recommended to family are awesome. Very rarely have issues - maybe 1 per year. I have had no experience with nest wifi yet.

Also try disconnecting all wifi clients except 1, then try ping test. Maybe use your phone instead of your desktop to ping test.. it might be something that's active on your PC.

Yes.. at the moment my Mikrotik router is the one doing the PPPOE authentication + VLAN Tagging.

The problem is that I cannot make my Google WIFI router bridge because I have a mesh network (2 or more Google NEST WIFI Routers). If I want to make my WIFI router bridge, I need to use only one. Then I might have WIFI Signal problems (will test)

You're not understanding what I'm saying.  You want to do exactly as I'm suggesting for testing - Google WiFI becomes your router doing PPPoE with Mikrotik doing the VLAN tagging.

I blogged about this probably 7 or 8 years ago if you don't know how to do it.

I too am confused why you would do that. The Google WiFi router and points would still not be able to reach the gateway via the VLan on the mikrotik?

Unless I am not reading what you are trying to say?

Sorry I haven't read your blog (or I might have forgotten I read it)

I guess you could do that just to test the connection going through the Google router. Maybe first do the test I suggested, and just disconnect everything upstream of the Google router, then ping test it.

I'm confused about how anybody could be confused about what I'm suggesting.

OP has Nova broadband which is already CG-NAT. Using Google Wi-Fi in router mode behind this means a 3rd later of NAT is being introduced - which won't be the cause, but is totally unnecessary. Google WiFi is not a great solution IMHO, and having this setup is not ideal in the real world.

The obvious setup for the OP is Google WiFi doing PPPoE acting as the primary router, with the Mikrotik handing the VLAN tagging since Google WiFi can't do VLAN tagging.

My own confusion, justified or not is not understanding how using what you have described will achieve the outcome I assume he wants: greater WiFi coverage using multiple Nest devices.

Please do correct me if I am wrong, but I would have thought this could not be achieved if:

                                           -->WiFi clients

                                           |

                                           |

ISP(NAT)-->ONT-->Nest WiFi Router(NAT) (PPPoe)-->Mikrotik (gateway via VLAN)(NAT)-->rest of network

                                           |

                                           |

-->Nest WiFi Access Point--> WiFi clients

Sorry the poor drawing - I don't have access to a computer. But from above the Nest devices and their WiFi clients wouldn't be able to connect to the internet due to routing not going through the gateway?

[edit] formating

Hi, as Spyware says, use the Mikrotik to untag the traffic as per steve biddles blog, and then feed that to the Google Nest in full routing mode.
