I also got burnt by Google wifi. My folks are using those units as they’re fairly basic in their needs but I’ll swap them out when they churn from Spark.

What’s a recommended solution for a replacement system?

He has Ethernet wall ports on every location that requires an AP, but no ceiling access.

There are also a few (physical concrete) firewalls to contend with, so I’d say requires 5 APs.

I have ceiling mounted UniFi APs myself, but since those aren’t an option was thinking 5x UAP-AC-IW and a small PoE switch to power them.

Any thoughts on these, or other suggestions for non-ceiling mounted APs?

UniFi in wall is very good. I’m doing another installation of 8 units this coming week.

Have also use a few inwall AP's they definitely save time and a lot of shagging around when there are already Cables installed! even better still, if it's a rental or you own the house all you have to do is just unscrew the AP and fit a data jack inplace and your good to go.

Rather than having to climb into our ceiling, I decided to use one of these:

It seems to work just as well as the ceiling mounted ones.  I have it on top of a stack of HiFi gear about 1.07 metres off the floor.
