Eva888: @RustyViewer Don’t get me started on Smart Vu. It’s glitchy as, each day it has a brand new issue so maybe the problem is with that and not your Wi-Fi. One day when I’m mad enough with it I will post an entire new thread on the glitches.

Make sure you use the power supply it came with. That was my mistake initially when I used the one for the Chromecast stick which the SV 11 was replacing which turns out had lower amps. Makes all the difference when you use the correct one.

How far is the smart vu from the wifi. Does itshow a good signal strength on wifi?
If so, then i would expect it may be the device going glitchy.
What do you mainly use it for?

The wifi is a very short distance from the sv11 and is a good strong signal. I mainly use it for ondemand and youtube. I don't have any subscription services at the moment.

Even though I've been told this would not be the case, I am concerned that the device was damaged from being underpowered for several months from using a 5v 850amp from another device instead of the supplied 5v 1000amp.

It will work fine for hours and then glitch a few times. There may be wifi interference or times when the servers are busy which slows things down enough for the glitches. I hear that free on demand is not the best and others also report problems with this and youtube but not the paid-for streaming services.

I am hoping by switching to ethernet that the glitching problems will be solved. Someone else has said they have had no problems using ethernet with this device.

I have just switched my power supply from a cheap 6 socket powerboard to a more serious-looking surge-protected powerboard. Maybe that will help too as I wonder if there was a slight inconsistency with the power supply, enough to cause the problems.

I think you mean 1000 mA (milliamp).

I wonder if you would be better just replacing it with something like this:

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/DVAMIX26919/Xiaomi-TV-Stick-Media-Player-Portable-Streaming-10

The only thing you would be missing (at least out of the box) would be the Freeview app - though you can actually source this elsewhere if you look hard enough. ;-)

Otherwise, TVNZ on demand, Three now, Youtube, Netflix and heaps of other apps are all available from the google play store.

At around $70 + a decent USB adapter, it might be better than fluffing around with a (possibly) faulty device and buying bits of hardware that don't resolve the issue.

Ive installed plenty of the powerline kits

Only issues Ive had , all differnet sites
- a house with bad mains wiring, wouldnt work reliably in one room but did in the room next to it
- one powerpoint wouldnt work (built in filtering?) , but the powerpoint 2 meters away did work
- kids simply unplugging them , then client complains its offline. Go back onsite, plug it in again, repeat every 6months

Powerline are really the choice of LAST RESORT , when nothing else can be used .

Having said that, they're also the easiest, fastest & most flexible networking solution to install, as well as being totally portable. From opening the box to connection completed in multiple rooms inside ten minutes.

I've been using direct ethernet cable and the SV11 seemed more stable but this morning it started doing hissy fits again, as bad as ever. Is it to do with how busy the internet traffic is or is something else going on? At least I know not to waste money on a power line kit.

Hi, so to confirm its not an internet connection issue ( and I assume you are on either a decent VDSL or a Fibre connection) setup on a PC on your network an MTR test, ideally to the next hop or other server on your ISPs network (assuming it responds to ICMP) and see if the latency to that device increases at the same time that the SV11 goes bad. If it does not significantly change then its very likely not your network or internet connection, but instead the SV11 or whoever its connecting to.

This is not a 100% test, but a good place to start.

Cyril

To me, the SV10 felt like a device that was made available only to say that they can say a solution has been provided. Two days of struggling ±2yrs ago convinced me to never buy these devices again.

its initial release it was laggy - but it has had a couple of updates since release that has improved this.
It is still not quite as smooth as its big brother (mi box s) but has become quite stable and very usable. Of course - no 4K though.
