Does anyone have any experience with this type of face plate and mounting block?

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/ITPFPKS002/Dynamix-FP-2KS-Dual-Port-RJ-45-Keystone-Face-Plate

Can they be screwed directly into plasterboard?

Yes, it has the 4 holes in the corners that are used for direct fixing.

I usually use these type anchors under them.

100Pcs Nylon Plaster Hollow Wall Screw

But if youre not getting massive amounts for cheap, then a C clip ends up being cheaper than 4 of them. I have never had any luck with just screws into gib.

There's also these ones:

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/NETDNX0062/Dynamix-Triple-Port-Face-Plate-for-110Keystone-Jac

which don't include a mounting block. What are the options for mounting that type of face plate on a plasterboard wall? I assume that would require a similar type of mounting block or flush box to be purchased separately? Can they be used on their own with c-clips?

That only has the 2 holes that take some obscure threaded screw (UNC or UNF thread because its a US design) into the C clip or flushbox. Cant direct fix. You could put a mounting block on the wall and there are shallow ones for that but yuck, just get the c clip and put that in place.

I'm finding there's a frustrating lack of information on some of these products.

There's these Amdex face plates:

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/ADPADX1021/AMDEX-FP-2PV3-Dual-Port-Face-Plate

No screw holes on that one so I'm guessing they designed to be clipped onto a mounting block?

Its a cover to cover all the holes underneath. What there is exactly is a mystery because its a crap ecommerce website that things one small image of something is good enough, but in saying that people buying these things will normally be ok with that and know what they're getting into.

Edit:

also if you're looking at that style of plates, bunnings have deta ones that take basically the same clones of an old clipsal design module in them and you can go and see them on the wall instead of a crap picture.

Just trying to install a very basic wired home network which will only have a couple of connected devices at this stage.

Snip

Your switch will need a power supply from somewhere.

there are mini 12 port patch panels available.

Look at an unloaded patch panel if your new at this. their easier to troubleshoot and repair than loaded options.

Consider a colour cable for phone, data and other options, rather than looking at up to 24 x coloured options, you may only have 4,

say white for phone.

The heat from the switch and what's surrounding it eg clothes on top

Consider pulling additional cables to your tv locations while going (for IP-based television)

Route a cat6a (or better) ethernet cable between the modem and the switch. (I prefer running two cables)

Keep all your cables, switch and keystones to the same spec. If you use cat5e cable and the rest at cat6, you will only get cat5de performance.

Consider adding a service loop somewhere near one of the ends of the cable.

purchase your patch leads from the wall to the device. it will save you time and $$$ in the long run

Consider a phone jack point beside the internet equipment, thus being wired to the phone cables. it makes it easy then to hook up a phone line via the internet, fobre etc.

Thanks for the tips. I decided to keep it simple and use the router ports instead of a switch. The only down side is it means more visible cable with the patch leads going from the router to the wall but that's only a minor inconvenience. I'm using Cat6 solid core cable for the underfloor cabling between wall jack points. From what I understand, there's not much difference between Cat6 and Cat6A especially when dealing with shorter cable lengths.
