Thanks for all the replies. I think the vinyl wrap will do the trick and since there’s no technical reason not to cover - I won’t go underneath or remove ONT from the wall as it’s close to floor level and only needs camouflage for what’s showing. Now to find wrap in a dark colour.

I took all the cables off boxes and devices and replaced them with black. Stuck the power board on a beam and made a tiny shelf behind cabinet for the HFC router and the white deco mesh to sit on, (also to be wrapped). The ONT which is not active yet is the only white really obvious apart from a couple of old cables coming in through the floor which are yet to be dealt to as have no idea what they are for anymore, but that’s another job.

Big job almost finished. The cabinet I used has drawers with deep carving in front so air can pass through and It was great to put three Ethernet connected tv boxes in the drawer with cables out through the back to the power source and router. Bluetooth remotes mean they don’t need line of sight. Was so sick of yellow Ethernet cables and boxes in view with the old cabinet.

You could mount something over it that is attached to the wall not the ONT, provided it has adequate ventilation for passive air movement

For example a wooden cover that matches the timber the wall is made of.  People do that to cover central heating radiators and it looks OK.

Looking at our ONT it's a plastic cover with very fine ventilation slots that would very easy to remove but a PITA to paint or apply contact to.

I've modified it with some tape across the LEDs, as the office has a pullout bed in it.  As is common with many devices, whoever designed the ONT evidently thought they were building airport landing lights!!

Hi, yes I agree with your idea of a simple wood panel cover to match the wall, regarding the lights, the 300 series has a lights off button, I think just the power led remains on, but most importantly its dimmed during lights off and does not flicker as the other do.

I would not imagine that it would get hot enough to cause anything other than an internal failure rather than a fire??

Have seen painted ones across various properties.  never bothered to ask if they have failed.

Can imagine it now.... people wanting color coded units from Chorus :D

Kinda one reason I asked the installers to mount the ONT in the garage.... out of sight, out of mind.

Ubiquiti sells "skins" for their access points, the only point of contention here is messing with something that's being leased to you.

Sounds like a job for someone with a 3d printer.
Design a clip on plate that snaps over the front.

Looking at the Chorus site we have either a 100 or 200.  But the tape works!

Perhaps consider using furniture pens/markers?

- carefully 'colour it in'

(assuming the furniture pen adheres to the plastic.... might need extra drying time).

GV27:

Handle9: There’s no technical reason you couldn’t paint it, providing you can take it apart and put it back together.

You break it you bought it would apply as it’s not your property but if it continues chugging along no one is going to know or care.

At least until you move and try to flog it on TradeMe. Then someone might notice.

But then it's upgraded and you can make your listing more attractive!
