I already had an SSD and RAM lying around so I didn't need to spend extra on it but that's my case. Possible Rscole also has some spare ddr4 and a m.2 SSD.

Wouldn't need much either OPNsense won't eat more than 4GB unless you're planning on running proxmox and then virtualizing PF or OPNsense (as I post this it is sitting at 2GB out of the 16GB I gave it.... yes it's overkill 😊 but it's what I had spare).

Cheap ddr4 and m.2 sata ssds are chump change anyway.

Ramblings from a mysterious lady who's into tech. Warning I may often create zingers.

@Handle9, you're right, I must have hit the official store, or direct store rather than the computer store...

Not sure why I settled on the N5105, but looking again you're right the N100 is the one to go for.

Cheers @MaxineN, I had just started looking into the cards, and was already making sure to stay away from Realtek and started to see complaints about some of the Intel's.

Certainly don't need the J series ;)

It appears from what I could find N100 is a fair bit more powerful than the J6412 anyway. It's 13th gen and seems to have superior single core and multicore performance with better performance per watt.

The only thing to be aware of is N100 is DDR5 so you can't use old DDR4 SODIMMs
