When I was trying to change the DNS to one inside my network the thing complained and put me on to the DHCP page Neither could be changed and when I had a setting that it was happy with the app could not do the save and reset thing. I even took out the power to simulate the restart all setting where where I left them with no changes to the one that I was after...

If I remember correctly you can turn off DHCP and point it to something else. I'll need to grab out my X50 but I think this can be done. Before you try and return it to smales farm, let me have a dig and I'll come back to you.

Okay minor unfortunate correction.

I have checked with my X50 which whilst not the X53, it functions mostly the same, minus a DSL modem and SIP functionality. You cannot turn off DHCP. You can point DNS to somewhere else, that part is correct but DHCP is on unless you put it into Access Point mode... which then also disables VLAN.

If the aim is to improve WiFi performance, you could throw the X53 into Access Point mode, ask for One NZ to ensure the Ultrahub is still the main router to be assigned the phone and use the UH as your router, turn off the Ultrahub's WiFi (easy to do) and the Deco X53 will act as a DHCP client on your currently existing DHCP dished out by your Pi-Hole and will pass DHCP via it's LAN ports. Pretty much nerfing the X53 and making it a dumb AP. Ultrahub still gets the phone. It's just another device that yes can perform better over WiFi... Ultrahub tops out at around 600mbps in my testing, Deco X53, if HE160 is turned on, you'll smash a gig on a 160mhz client no problem. If you want to replace the Ultrahub and still maintain your network with the X53, it doesn't seem possible.

Thanks to all who commented and contributed.

The problem is now effectively closed as I have surrendered the unit back to One NZ with happy faces on both sides. I will continue to use the UltraHub until the Mother dose not need a land line.

In the end I can see who this device was made for and most likely most people here would not be the target market.

As I was reading the posts a lot of in-site was gained I was able to get functionality in both setup ways If I was to buy this product it would be for creating a wifi access point with a 2 pack, switching of the WiFi radio on the ultrahub, using mesh mode of the two decos...

And Thanks again to all who commented.
