You may not need a proxy server if your router provides proper routing to the Internet - you will only need a proxy if using the PC as a bridge.

Also you can try VxUtil for all sorts of network things (including but not limited to PING). It's free and very handy.

Yep thats very true

although this is just the way that I got it to work.....
