Still 10c/MB ($102/GB) is completive with the mobiles. (better than $1126/GB)
What speeds do you get from the Sat?

XT is pretty unexistant - sometimes a little reception on roof but its pretty dodgy and goes in and out as well as often having errors and not working due to the weak signal (tried a T-stick over there for a couple of days)

Using a vodem she got 40kbps consitantly... beats the 11kbps dial up however... but not for the added cost. That was on a good day however... and sometimes does not work at all.

Yes - 0.11/MB is competitive for overage charges to mobile... although mobile data is cheaper in the first place to buy for more data allowance.

On the satellite she is on a 512/128 plan although her actual speeds have never differed from 530/50 (obviously in kbps).

Vodafone is just Farmside resold... So you gain the EXACT same options from them as you do from Farmside... In fact if you were to sign up they refer you to Farmside. Anyway... Farmside service isnt that great... and it is WAY more exspensive.

... I thought you would struggle to find any other options... There is just nothing out that way!

I have equipment on kahuranaki which i use to relay a signal out to maraetotara.
I have already had enquiries from another person in the area and am looking at putting a radio to send a signal down towards mckenzie road in a couple of months.

I am most likely to be that person (went up Kahuranaki with you a while ago).

One of the people I know has gone with satellite and I was just trying to help her out as she called and asked me how to make sure she doesnt go over her data limit... I told her about the possibilty of this idea and she seemed open to it (even if she had to end her contract early).

There are a few people around this area that would be hopeful... Let me know if you want any more info etc or help.

Just spoke to Rural Inzone Corp and was told that they cannot stop service or slow after the data limit has been reached.

- I guess she will just have to watch what she does... she isnt a heavy internet user anyway and I think shell be fine. They said they would send an email at 80% and 95% usgage however... So I guess that helps.
