Yes I understand that alarm guys might have to convert to screw terminals anyway, and can't predict distance to alarm panel locations even if a reasonable length cable was included. Maybe RJ31X on Line 2 would allow for test disconnect as well as enabling options for either alarm or dedicated line 2 jack, depending on user requirement. I think the new SDP had an RJ31X somewhere but maybe requires a loopback if there's no shorting bar. I guess any Cat5e used on an RJ31X should be solid to allow for the likely cludges...

Time to find a new industry!

I managed to avoid going under the house to run my Cat-5 as I decided that I'll redistribute my RG6 at the same time.

Got the RG6 - just need to pick up the splitters/amp now.

this is a slap in the face!

Quick question around the RG6 and Sky.

I understand for the MySki HD you are required to run two lengths of RG6.

At the moment we only have Sky Digital from the Satellite - am running some new RG6 now and was wondering how I leave the second length until we upgrade to the HD box?

Hi, at the minimum run it up inside the wall to the roof space where it can be joined onto to get to the dish, and ideally run 3runs not just two. But if it were me run the cable from the STB site up the wall and out to the dish, tape off the cable so water cannot get in, use PIB tape (self amalgamating tape) if you can.

If you are concerned about leaving unterminated cables on the roof then just keep in mind that you are trying to reduce hassle in future, so if it means just running the cable into the roof space so that it can be easily attached to in future then thats probably all you need to worry about (ie access).

Cheers, does the mysky HD require a new satellite? Our current one for the stock standard digital only seems to have room for one run at this stage (entry box on the actual satellite)

When Sky does a MySky upgrade they will also replace the LNB with a unit with 4outputs, of which two need to go to the HDi and one to each standard box.
