Hi,

I have this AP, F8T030.

The problem I have is i am trying to print over my Lan using the AP built in USB ports. I have tried both usb ports on the AP to no avail. No data is sent.

I have a Lexmark X1150 printer. I have had no responce from Belkin about this problem.

I have this AP connected to my Belkin Wireless router.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm guessing you have installed the Belkin printer port driver software on your PC. I had some problems using that, particularly when trying to use a Limited user account on Windows XP.

It is also possible to use the built in Windows TCP/IP printing support.
You start with the add new printer wizard, choose a local printer and untick autodetect. Then choose a new TCP/IP port and enter the IP address of the print server.
It will take a while to detect but it should come up as a "Generic Network Device"
Once you have the port installed you can install your printer driver attached to that port.

You will need to modify the port properties of the printer, Lexmark Printer Properties -> Ports -> Configure Port ->
Change the protcol from RAW to LPR, tick LPR Byte Counting, and I usually enter a queue name like "usb1" though I don't know if this is required.

It looks like this printer is a Multifuntion Device. In which case I would not expect it to work, at least only the basic printer features could possibly work and definately not anything like scanning and copying.

The Belkin device does not attempt to create a remote USB connection to the printer, instead it uses the LPR protocol which is an existing standard for network printing. If you want to make use of the mutifuntion features of the printer you would have to attach it to a local usb port.

I use mine with an HP Deskjet 980, and that works fine most of the time, though it is very slow when printing large images.

Hi eddwo,

Thanks for the fast response! It worked a treat, although when a print job is sent and completed, it still resides in the print queue. Nothing else is able to print. Strange?

Its a shame the scanner side doesn't work through the AP but i kind of guessed it wouldn't.

Anyone had any luch updating the firmware? I keep getting an error whilst trying the Belkin website.

Thanks again eddwo!

I have a problem with a used F8T030, it has a pin code required to connect bluetooth and it has a fixed IP of 192.168.123.101 which I cannot browse to for the manager, any ideas how to get it back to factory settings in this case

I don't know, I can't see anywhere to stick a pin in it. We have one at work that I think has had a bad flash and I can't seem to find any way to sort that out either.

I've actually recently stopped using mine, it started needing to be rebooted after each printout. I swapped it with an AirportExpress I bought recently which seems to do the print serving job just as well, and I never really used the Bluetooth part of it much. Another piece of Tech junk I'll keep around in case I someday find a use for it. I think the AirportExpress is actually a bit faster, and I can use Rendevous to locate the printer, so it won't matter if the IP changes.

I to have problems with the Access point

I only bought it really for the print server, but will later be using the Bluetooth.

After a bit of messing i have got the LAN (Netgear DG834) To see the AP and give it an Ip address 192.168.0.3, great!

But having plugged my Dell 720 Printer into the lower port as said, and installing the Belkin printer port CD, whenever i print i still get a message saying No connection.

I have tried all sorts, on the LAN web manager it shows the AP, and on the AP manager it shows the USB printer, but still no prints!

Any ideas or help appreciated Thanks

Ian

Although I have not used the print server aspects, I have had variable success according to the version of the firmware that I have used.

The orginal (forget which version) was poor.
My first update (as advised by Roving Networks) was fine.
I have just tried the very recent Version 2.0 Build 17, and had no luck.
Reverted to Version 2.0 Build 3 which was my first update.

It is still available at:-
http://www.rovingnetworks.com/belkinpan4.bin

Perhaps the fact that it was stable for networking generally might mean it is good for print serving. What have you got to loose?

Right Did That

When I connect to the printer using the stright forward TCP / IP method as talked about in previous posts, it does seem to actually connect to the printer as the box that tells me how much of the printing is done pops up and displays information about how much ink is left, so it seems to now see my printer, so thats a step forward but still no prints.

Any other ideas anybody.

After Spending Hours Getting This To Work, I can Finally Print!!

But Like Sombody Mentioned Earlier, it prints 99% of my document and then stops, and then the document just stays there and I can't print anything else!

Any Ideas

I have exactly the same problem. Gets to 99% then stops. The print out is finished but the print job is still in memory and when trying to delete the print job, it still remains in memory.

Any ideas, anyone?

Why not try emailing Roving Networks (who manufacture this for Belkin) direct?

Hello all.

First, to introduce myself, I'm Ted Marshall, Vice President of Software Engineering for Roving Networks, Inc. As others have noted, we developed and maintain the F8T030 for Belkin.

I'd like to let everyone know that we have a new firmware release, 2.0(20), that has full PAN support and full support for the Microsoft XP SP2 Bluetooth stack. We have released this to Belkin support but I don't have any control over how long it takes them to put it up on their site. In the meantime, you may download it from our site. If you go to www.rovingnetworks.com/support.html, you will find a link to the release notes that include the installation instructions. Also on that page are instructions for printing from Windows XP and 2000.

If you are having problems that are not being addressed by Belkin support, please email us at support@rovingnetworks.com and we will do our best to help.

Finally, on the issue of print jobs not completing, this was just recently reported to us. We have not seen this problem but we are investigating.

I have also tried the new firmware. This time I switched PAN on. Browsing the device showed a service called "Network Access Point Service". I created a shortcut for it.

Using this shortcut I can fetch and send email from/to my ISP's servers, fetch email from my own local mail server, fetch usenet news from 3 separate news servers, web browse, connect to network shares on my 2 local PCs, FTP to my webspace on my ISP's servers, and activesync! All from my PDA!

I do still have a problem with the bluetooth connection dropping particularly when using activesync and occasionally when carrying out other operations. This seems to occur when there are many files to sync.

I have not attempted to connect my printer to it. As I have one PC on all the time, my printer can be connected to that. I may give it a try some time.

PS for Ted: Thanks for posting. I have seen a Belkin WiFi access point in a similar looking case. Do you make that for Belkin as well?

No. Belkin gets their WiFi technology from another company. Belkin controls the plastic. That's why the look similar.
