for those that have Dlink (like myself) this solved the problem also. All you need to do is to just go to "bluetooth devices" and change the digitally signed "cambridge silicon radio" the dlink device (assuming you have the latest driver)

1) install the latest dlink DBT-120 driver
2) open device manager
3) right click on "cambridge silicon radio" and Update Driver
4) Install from list (advanced)
5) Don't search I will choose driver to install
6) Choose the driver.

Hopefully this solves Dlink user problems!

Can someone post here in another link for the file plz? Or if anyone has another solution i'd be happy to read it. This thing is already getting on my nerve lol

Wild-Thing, the software you can download from a manufacturer's website works *only* with products from this manufacturer. This is due to the fact that WIDCOMM (the authors of the Bluetooth software) license parts of the software to the manufacturers. The parts not covered in the license are simply deactivated in the software.

So if you have a license key (the license.dat file) it will only work with a Bluetooth device that's covered by the license key. Thus you cannot just download the driver from another manufacturer's website.

You can try to do the following:

Download the software from any website, extract the archive and (this is crucial) replace the license.dat with the one that was on the CD-ROM that came with the Bluetooth adapter.

Now you'll probably be able to use the driver -- if WIDCOMM haven't changed the key for newer software versions (which I cannot guarantee). Just give it a try...

Hope this helps...

P.S.: Of course you'll also have to perform the steps Mike (sentryboy) posted earlier.

I got an ActionTec bluetooth adaptor and after installing it, theres a bt icon in the taskbar but when I try opening it, it says "your bluetooth software license does not include use with this device" then it makes me look for the license.dat file, and afting finding it (on the setup cd) nothing happens anyway, no error msg or anything, just nothing. if i double click on the icon it says "bluetooth device not found, verify it is properly connected" no matter which usb slot it's plugged into!
i've tried installing it and uninstalling it heaps and trying again but it doesnt make a difference. Just like VicX's problem. Can Ne1 help me?

Well, people post when something is up - not everyone has the answers... You say you had problems after installing the device. Did you install the software that came with it, or other product's software? Did you plug the device before installing the software?

Also, since this is a new problem (even though it seems related), it would be better to open a new thread - next time...

Thanks a lot to Mike... Got a great progress on the dongle...!
Now I am blocking on the next step : getting the headset wotking both ways...

The information is excellent on the Driver Priority Rules on XP... Following Mike's advices, it works great and I got the full featured WIDCOM Driver.

For Info and record, it worked with a

USB Dongle : Mavintec MBD - C2.1 (CSR FW 373)
WIDCOM : 1.4.2 build 10
WINDOWS : XP PRO SP2

But I have still a problem with my bluetooth headset HH303F (???)... (No Name - Sold under Merlin (www.merlin-me.com) trading company... with no product description, even less technical support on their site) !

I managed to PAIR it but I can only use it as a microphone... Under sound properties of the "Bluetooth Audio", the Record option is activated, the playback is disabled (grayed), and the "others" offer a "Analog Connection" which does not seems to be effective. Under the "Sounds and Audio Device Properties", I can select the bluetooth audio for playback and records... It works on reacord but I get nopthing in playback.

Of course the headset works perfectly OK with phone Nokia 6600... and I am not sure this problem is on the headset... would guess it is more on the dongle FW or Driver....?

Anybody having faced similar proble ?
Any Genious Tricky Idea like The Driver Priority of MIke...?

Thanks to share if any,
Cheers,
Alexis.

It depends on what services your headset has that it tells your computer about. If your computer is able to detect that the headset supports Headset Profile, then you should be able to select "Bluetooth Audio" for both Sound Playback and Sound Recording in your Sounds and Audio Devices control panel (Audio tab).

Of course, I'm assuming you're running XP. I don't have any other platform to test with, but I did verify that I can pair my Jabra 250 with my laptop and the laptop discovers the headset profile and adds these options. I also tested sound recording and playback and they work.

I checked the whole merlin-me website and googled for HH303F and found nothing resembling a BT headset, so I can't tell what you're talking about.

Thanks Mike for your fast reply...!

In fact, in terms of services, I am guessing the headset should support the headset profile properly as (1) it works perectly OK in record / playback with my Nokia 6600 (2) it is seen as offering such "service" when searched from WIDCOMM driver's tools (such as the Quick Connect->Headset from the icon in the Task bar) and (3) I indeed can see and select "Bluetooth Audio" for both Sound Playback and Sound Recording in the Sounds and Audio Devices control panel (as you highlighted in the email).

But the point which does not work are the following :

1. I have no playback while record is perfectly OK

2. Under the Volume Control (Control Panel), selecting the Mixer Device "Bluetooth Audio", the Recording option is enabled (can be selected), while the Playback is disabled (grayed)... This might mean something...? What's about yours ?

3. Finally in the Volume Control, beside the Playback & Recording Option for Volume Adjustment I have also in the dropdown of "Other" one strange name : "Analog Connection"... But even activating all the volume control for this option does not change anything.

For Info, I am indeed using XP. Also nothing can be found on merlin's website, neither on google on this headset (I tried all Ref, Labelling, Names I could found in the doc or from windows's interfaces)...

I am trying to get another bluetooth headset to compare the behaviour, but I still feel it is more related to the dongle / driver than the headset...(????).

Does anybody has got similar problem... Similar Grayed Settings...

BTW, does anybody has tested newer version of WIDCOMM Driver
(I saw on some website there would be a new one...) ?

Alexis.
