I just got a usb bluetooth dongle and after installing it, theres a bt icon in the taskbar but when I try opening it, it says "your bluetooth software license does not include use with this device" then it makes me look for the license.dat file, and afting finding it (on the setup cd) nothing happens anyway, no error msg or anything, just nothing. if i double click on the icon it says "bluetooth device not found, verify it is properly connected" no matter which usb slot it's plugged into!
i've tried installing it and uninstalling it heaps and trying again but it doesnt make a difference.

Is this CD the correct one for your device? Widcomm software will check the device's MAC address against a list of valid addresses and will only work if the licence is present. For instance TDK and Belkin use the same software but each will distribute with a different file configuration.

Another case is if you have a previous installation with another brand, and the software wasn't removed before installing the new one.

got it working, just looked around the forum and found a site to download new drivers. but they should give you exactly what you need to get the device working on the cd, otherwise whats the point in adding one.

Yep, I did try downloading those drivers yesterday and did unzip per url password but didn't work for DLink adapter. Problem may be DLink adapter uses Broadcom chip and not CSR?? I was hoping maybe you used another solution. :-(

Thanks for the quick reply and glad you got your issues resolved.

I am also having this issue, and have downloaded several different copies of what seem to be the same thing (WIDCOMM's 1.4.2 build10 drivers). None of them work. I am either asked for a license key, or told that my license doesn't support my hardware.

All I can tell you about my bluetooth USB dongle is it shows up as an "Alps Bluetooth Device" on my computer, which is running Windows XP Professional.

I am quite frustrated with this device... and if anyone could help, either by pointing me to good drivers, or giving me a license key, or anything... I'd apriciate it.

Zapp,

I think "Alps" is used as BT hardware solution by several computer companies (e.g. Sony & Toshiba).

AFAIK, Alps uses the OEM software solution, so you might check with pc vendor if you purchased as accessory on your computer. Widcomm drivers may not work with your hardware.

Widcomm security key is tied to the MAC of each adapter (i.e. vendor) it supports.

Alps Elect. should have a web site. Have you looked there for updated drivers?

I have succesfully upgraded my generic CSR UDB dongle to the new software by firstly installing the old software that came with it and then installing this new software. It asks if I want to upgrade the existing installation, then proceeds to uninstall that and install the new software which has worked fine. I'll just try it on my DSE adapter in my Laptop and see if it works on that as well since DSE have a fairly ancient version available for their adapter. The new version seems a lot more stable, I had the old one hang quite a few times. Combined with floAts mobile agent it makes an awesome setup!

I recall reading somewhere about editing the file that decides what adapters are compatible with particular devices, I believe it's the btwusb.inf. It migh

I just solved this problem for myself and thought I should post my solution in case someone searches like I did and finds this thread.

Symptoms:
1. Right-clicking the Bluetooth icon in the system tray show's only "Start Bluetooth Device" and "Bluetooth device not found"
2. Bluetooth Configuration control panel applet doesn't do anything when launched
3. Computer does not publish any BT services, so I can't do file xfer or sync with my PocketPC.

The Problem:
Windows prefers signed drivers when they are available. My Belkin F8T003v2 BT dongle was recognizable to Windows XP (SP2 in my case), so Windows installed the built-in, digitally signed drivers regardless of how many times I tried to uninstall and reinstall the BT and Belkin software.

Solution:
1. In Device Manager, right-click the "Belkin Bluetooth Adapter" and select "Update driver"
2. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" -> Next
3. Select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" -> Next
4. There should be two options: "Belkin Bluetooth Adapter" and "Belkin Bluetooth Device". "Belkin Bluetooth Device" is not digitally signed. Select it and click Next
Voila. After this, everything worked for me. I was able to re-partner my PocketPC and see the BT profiles available, do ActiveSync, the Bluetooth Configuration control panel applet actually did something, and the systray icon worked like I had been expecting all along.

Hope this helps someone save the hours I spent.
