Power Cabling must be and communications cabling should be, (emphasis on should be) read here "Surface Wiring" page 46, 36.9.3. besides for aesthetic reasons it will be.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

As per one of my earlier posts and explained further here, it is running up the wall inside the wardrobe after coming through from the back of the TV/Sky plate and the power outlet (two separate holes in the wardrobe/lounge wall) which is mounted on the other side of the wardrobe wall in the lounge room.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

1 - can I run the Cat6 cable and the power cable in the same conduit without any signal degradation?

1 No - its unsafe and illegal Full Stop.

Just spoke to my brother who is a retired electrician of 3 years and he said for the short distance in my case I can use "Twin Compartment Mini Trunking". Is this still correct?

OK - for those who have been following this post I am finally on UFB 30/10 with Spark.

9th September Transfield Services thrusted the 5mm RED fibre carrier tube under and down our drive for a length of 37.5 mtr's to a depth of 1.3 mtr's where they popped up in the garden at the back corner of the lounge. Same day the electrian arrived to put in a double power point which ran from the back of a double power point on the lounge side of the wardrobe wall. He ran it in square couduit up the wardrobe wall to the height of the wardrobe door. Just above a shelf I had installed myself.

22nd September Transfield Services blew the fibre optic down the RED carrier tube leaving a huge amount of spare at the house end (approx 11 mtr's)

23rd September Transfield Services Tech's arrived. They said that they would not be putting an ENT box on the outside wall as there was none in Tauranga. But because there was enough fibre optic they could thread that into small white flexable carrier tubing and run that up through a length of grey conduit into the soffit then across the ceilling space and down into the wardrobe approx 6 mtr's from the soffit, which is where it was terminated into the ENT then into the ONT, both of which were wall mounted, then into the Spark HG630b Gateway which was on the shelf I had put in. I then ran two Cat6e cables out of the LAN 1 & 2 points. One left the wardrobe into the office and into the Apple Time Capsule which is conected to my 2013 27" iMac. The other goes back through the wardrobe wall and into the back of the TV plate which is now a double plate, TV male screw & Cat6 female socket. This is then connected to my Pansonic Smart TV.

A couple of points:

1 - the ONT and the Spark HG630b Gateway come with external power transformer plugs. These DO NOT fit side by side into a double power point. I had to mount one on a flat double adapter and the other next to that.

2 - though all the UFB side of things was installed free of charge the electrian cost me $260.

3 - also I have a spare Spark HG630b Gateway - yippee

Am I happy with the overall outcome - you bet I am

. I watched a 20min Youtube short via the Smart TV as a test and for the first time there was no buffering delay. My Apple internal home 5Ghz 802.11ac network which I run my iDevices off is also way way faster than previous.

WOW what a difference from my old ADSL speed.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Hi guys sorry to jump in. i am waiting on Spark to install my fibre using ufb in a rental i have moved in to. But while nosing around i have noticed a fibre box on the outside of the house and then the hub in side a cupboard. could Spark use this instead of waiting for UFB ?

Pictures will help ID what you have exactly - but if there is already a Fibre ETP outside and an ONT inside then there would already be a UFB connection - the ONT would just need to be provisioned with your connection by Chorus (or who every your local UFB fibre network company is) for your Spark connection
