I'd be interested to know what about Windows 10 causes slow network speeds.. .I ask because every Windows 10 machine I have achieves expected speeds. Are you sure you're not grossly generalising?

I have no issues hitting GB speeds on my XPS 15 under Windows 10 Home.

It doesn't even have an Ethernet port built in, so I had to use a USB adapter to achieve this (which is actually connected to my monitor, which is in turn connected via USB-C to the XPS). I was actually surprised this setup gave me such great speeds.

Interesting, i have a older xps 15 with a usb3 adaptor and it won't do 1Gbps, only about 0.6

Now your post makes me wonder whether it's the dongle or my laptop. Alas I'll just keep wondering

I was able to hit these speeds with both a USB-C and USB 2.0 adapter (the former had to be replaced by the latter when I got a new monitor (stupid lack of ports on modern day laptops (and don't even get me started on the lack of Ethernet port in the first place!!))

Yup lack of such a useful port is frustrating. Now the new xps 13 has lack of almost any ports.
