What the. You bought a $700 consumer grade router? For less than that cost you could have gotten a decent router combined with 2x access points which would perform quite a bit better.

You seriously got sucked in to the marketing there and wasted your money. I wouldn’t say problem solved, you’re going to run into problems like this again down the track.

Well...

  • I've got +25 devices conected simultaneously on my wifi (TV, 4 laptops/desktops, smart vacuum robots, smart lights, IPTV cameras, etc).
  • I work from home (I guess we all do atm) and I need a stable (and fast) connection.
  • I play games over the WIFI so I need a good router.
  • I'll be switching to Gigabit connection soon so I need a WIFI 6 router

Yes, I spent $600 on that router but I only need one - I have a two stories house and it is working fine anywhere - plus I know if I ever move out it will handle it

I know it may seem much but I think it was worth it. Plus, if you think there is something better out there why didn't you share your thoughts? 😐

Wow, your mikrotik router was fine and superior in every way to what you purchased and all you need was a pair of Unifi ACLites at $300 all up and you would have had a sweet setup. But hey as long as you are happy.

yeah the MK router is still there receiving the PPPOE connection. I've had Unifi before and they work fine, however, the hose that I'm is not mine and I don't wanna hang them on the ceiling.

I've got a NanoHD sitting on a shelf on my desk. Works totally fine. You don't need them wall or ceiling mounted. I've also got Gigabit broadband and quite a bit more devices than you. IMO UniFi alongside the Mikrotik router would have been a better solution for you as WiFi 6 just isn't ready for prime time and likely never will, you need to essentially be in the same room for it and it is only really good if you've got a WiFi 6 access point in each room. This is the main reason Wireless access point manufactures have not bothered with it yet.

so you brought a $700 router and are using it as an access point?

and access points dont need to go in the ceiling, neither of mine are, one is under the Tv an the other is well under the tv in the bedroom

Just an update.

I've removed the Mikrotik as the main router. I'm using it only for my site-to-site VPNs.
The ASUS router is now the main router, receiving Gigabit Fibre Speed from Orcon.

It's been working pretty good and I haven't had issues since. I can work, attend to (virtual) meetings, while my partner watches Netflix, use the cellphone, etc without issues at all.

So even though this ended up being an expensive solution for some, it works pretty well and I'm happy with it.
