@Mikeaqua. Thanks for your patience. Got into settings ok but led went red at create wifi network point and at the end of the process it told me my internet settings were incorrect. Which is at least progress of a sort.
I am entering the details provided by2deg for BYO modem where username and password are those I signed up to 2deg with and use to access my account billing details etc. Is this where I am going wrong?

It seems like the details are not correct if its not connecting. The 2degrees site says:

  • Username: Your username@snap.net.nz
  • Password: The password you chose at sign up.
  • Encapsulation: PPPoE
  • VLAN ID: 10

So you have your 'username' and password? - I am not sure how you test/check this on 2degrees.

Did it mention anything about VLAN (or IPTV):

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2465/

EDIT:Try and Ensure the VLAN 10/IPTV bit is tunrned on. If your ISP is not listed there is 'New Zealand UFB' in the list - just choose that.

So I had another google and found a reference to logging into your 2deg customer account and changing/setting your 'Broadband network password', which I did, and it suddenly worked!

WHY they can't tell people this I don't know, and I will contact them to suggest they update their instructions, if this is indeed the magic key. Honestly, from a choice of account username, network name, router password, deco network name, tp link login, it's not clear at all, especially when the 2deg tech support tell me it's the SSID and WPA key! I don't expect 2deg to have instructions for every device, but if they could get this one thing right, that would help.

I now have 3 MR4 happily chatting, a redundant fritzbox, although it was worth it for the first 48 hours and <100MBPS all over the house (better speed than before)

THANK YOU all for your help - your encouragement and directions kept me trying. I should have come to geekzone first!

Well done - Always knew it should work ok. I am very happy with mine - and I just have 2 units.

I did find that page you mention on the 2dgrees site - but figured you had been talking to them so you must have had the correct details.

Just worth pointing out that should you decide to plug the Fritzbox back in it wont work. You would have to log into the fritzbox and set the PPPoE username and password to the one you know is working now. Whatever is saved in the Fritzbox is probably wrong now. But you probably wont want to go back to it anyway.

I figured they’d know to tell me that information - never mind!
