You mentioned earlier you want to use a PS3 with that router, I just had an unrelated question: Can you play Rockstar games such as GTA4 and Red Dead Redemption Online and see other players consistantly? I just bought a PS3 and want to play RDR online with my friends but for some reason I can never find other players and Google and Rockstar have been little help. Cheers

I don't own any Rockstar games, sorry. My online gaming has consisted primarily of Battlefield Bad Company 2, Uncharted 2, with a bit of Bioshock 2, Team Fortress2, and Rock Band thrown in for good measure. These have been technically successful ventures, but my KDR would probably suggest that it would be unwise to categorically consider them to be successful overall. :-D

graemeh: I guess Belkin don't give their staff access to google. It took me seconds to find out what it is :)

Indeed :-)

But the bottom line is this: If it doesn't support Bonjour, it doesn't support Macs. Because of this lack of support, I no longer have IP resolution for local computers, access to my shared printer, access to my shared iTunes library... and I bet thats just the start. Belkin have until tomorrow morning to respond, otherwise I'm taking it back for a refund and will purchase another make/model. I'll also inform the salesperson who sold it to me to not recommend this model to anyone who has Macs on their network.

Really you can see that all your computers are supported by TCP/IP and are happily transferring files. If you did not specify an application on your mac that needs support such as this special NAT traversal utility, then I would check the Apple support people about how to configure it for your requirements. It sounds like your macs are expecting to open ports for remote access on itunes or whatever? Does your LAN use the Belkin as the DNS server? But this issue with Bonjour should not affect local names on your LAN, only the access to named services on your LAN from internet. Normally NAT-traversal functions like UPnP and Bonjour would be disabled on routers if security and privacy is requried.

There is no reason why anyone would refund that router under the Consumer Guarantees Act unless you specifically mentioned your requirement for a Bonjour service before the purchase. Its not an Apple specific thing, its just the Apple version of Zeroconf.

According to Wikipedia: "Bonjour only works within a single broadcast domain, which is usually a small area, without special DNS configuration. Mac OS X and AirPort Base Stations provide a facility called Wide Area Bonjour which allows dynamic DNS updates and service discovery by means of updating a properly configured DNS server..."

Time to find a new industry!

Well, I'm not that experienced with configuring OSX networking, but I did reach out on OSX forums for advice before conceding defeat with the Belkin. All I can say is that my old D-Link modem/router worked as expected (although slowly due to its age and lowly specs), the Belkin Share did not, and the Netgear one I have now works flawlessly. Belkin support even explicitly stated to me that their device will not work with Bonjour, and that was certainly my experience. I understand Bonjour is at its core primarily a network discovery protocol, but it is one that needs to be working in order to get any semblance of normal functionality on a LAN which has one or more OSX based machines.

As for your comment about the CGA; thats precisely why I like to purchase my stuff from large retailers where possible. They always have very reasonable exchange and return policies, unlike smaller vendors (one of whom told me they would only refund on unopened items, and even then would charge a restocking fee).
