This must be old as even vodafone say there should be a firmware upgrade option under maintenance.

Money thrown down the ditch. I consider better advice to buy a better known and trusted brand that had much better reviews than the hg569, sure lots of the around, but you could end up with a lemon.

Sounds like you bought a HG556a (also known as Vodafone Home Gateway)?

Gotta be careful as some people put the old modem in the new box or get the boxes mixed up.

Either that or you do have a Vodafone HG659 but are using the wrong login.

See the Admin password for your modem section in the following link for advice:

I just used the same as before and it worked Admin and @SN 8 dig.

But when I log in it cant auto setup my internet. I can fix the wifi. Not sure what setting ive/its got wrong on the WLAN.

I will be much less pissed at these devices once I get it set up lol. They try to make it look simpler but its hard to know where to find anything. I guess Im familiar with the netcomm and cisco devices.

SO CLOSE, SO FAR. Well the wifi is going lol, that was easy.

Jase2985: there is a step by step guide on bigpipes website

Is that what you call that pile of junk written to no technical writing principals whatsoever. Thanks but it doesnt tell you the settings. It just says check this light check that light. WTF is that. Not a how to setup the modem guide. Its not plug and play. It doesnt recognise the network.

It just talks about the lights, not the router settings. All of my lights are on. Including the WAN. The only one not solid is internet which is flashing which it says it might do.

It recognises my nf4v within the time it takes for the router to boot, 20 seconds.

Thanks but I kind of need to know why its not recognising the network.

After I applied the firmware, I then went through the steps jase had sent, I thought flap it start again.

So I reset the router with a toothpick, then connected it and left it for 30 mins, came home and all is working.

So maybe it is all plug and play, uggggh lol. Thanks Jase.

The one thing I cant figure out is the bigpipe default password for the router.

U:Admin

P:?????????

Its different when using a Lan port vs WIFI. Weird.

Wifi is

  • Default username: !!Huawei
  • Default password: @HuaweiHgw

Somehow I managed to login via Ethernet last night, meh.

Strangely I get better pings via wifi, Ethernet was 30ms wifi us 2-3ms

Anyway so wifi speeds are consistent with the borrowed router

3ms 92Mbps D 17Mbps U

Ok so to compare to the Netcomm NF4V

What Im finding is, next to the router, the Huawei is 40Mbps quicker down, but 3Mbps slow up. And through 3 walls the Netcomm its much the same as the Netcomm, just it has slightly faster upload speeds for some reason. This is on both 5ghz and 2.4Ghz.

In the far room the old notebook isnt benefiting from 5Ghz, I didnt really expect it to as its a short range band. But was worth a try.

But for the Mrs when she works from home it means she doesnt havt to connect to the 15M ethernet cable to do her work. I wish I had used AC on our vdsl as we were getting 30Mbps on 2.4Ghz N, Id imagine it would have been more like 40Mbps, Im not sure the threshold for VDSL, but we are 30metres from the cabinet.

As for my old but gold, Xps. Ill upgrade the N mPcie to an AC chip. Just not sure which one, I guess intel will do, but could go overboard maybe if Killer or somebody similar sells them. Prob more than I paid for this bargain notebook.

Thanks to Jase, Rich, Hio and Spy and everyone who has helped when I was really frustrated.

I find the whole plug and play thing more difficult.

Why does the WLAN to ONT take so long to Sync by the way?

This is interesting.

The Mrs left here Samsung active 2 she uses for GIS field work (native fauna/flora).

It has AC but only get 50Mbps. Her cheap Asus ua310 gets 95Mbps down. Its an Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 chipset. Perhaps thats what I should look to upgrade my XPS to. They are about $15us on amazon. Is there any reason this wouldnt work?

But even more interesting. The Jitter on the new Huawei over the Netcomm has increased from a consistent 2ms to 10ms (ran about 10 tests, was same every time).

Would the Jitter in the Huawei just be the quality of circuitry?

I've closed your other thread as your question had already been answered here on the first page and it was again in the wrong subforum. There is no need to keep creating threads on this subject.

Different topics Michael, they might merge back to the same topic but they start out different.

Not trying to cause an issue, but trying to place them where they should go.

Asking a question about modifying a notebook SHOULD go in the notebook sub forum.......
