I think its a silly system. The hardware in the units are the same. They get the identical drivers from the same place. They should provide these for their custormers, that cant be that hard. A case where the hardware is similiar is nVidia graphics adapters. You can download the drivers no matter who produced the nVidia-based hardware you have. It works much better than this system and most importantly is much more userfriendly.

I bought a D-Link because I wanted quality. But you cant expect people to do much homework on a product costing 20-50 USD. I have a "B3" hardware version - would you expect people to research that B3 hardware might not work with all drivers - well it works, but some licensing mumbojumbo keeps you from installing a certain version? You cant expect that from mere mortal users :)

Just to verify that this is a bug in the 1.4.1.6 build, I paired my headset with a friend's PC who has the 1.4.2.10 version and XP Pro installed and I experienced no playback problems.

I then copied the audio drivers to my PC and this also corrected the problem in my 1.4.1.6 version. Initial testing shows some improvement in audio quality. I don't seem to be having some of the problems with reception static, break-up, etc. when using Yahoo Messenger and CD/DVD, etc.

Still early, but will update after I've had a chance to test further.

Thanks everyone for the good hints! The WIDCOMM software (1.4.2.10) is available on www.epox.com. My headset works fine now!

Don't cut and paste the audio drivers as I attempted!

I began to notice several problems when using other BT services. Specifically, lost the ability to connect to multiple devices concurrently (i.e. headset and phone) and PC Suite had problems connecting.

I tried replacing with original audio drivers, but this didn't fix the problems. Had to roll back my system to a point prior to adding the new audio drivers to get everything working again.

Looks like you need to do a complete install of 1.4.2.10!!

Here's the fix for 1.4.1.6 (XP users):

Connect your headset with your PC.

Go to Control Panel --> Sounds & Audio Devices --> Audio Tab.

Settings should be:
- Sound playback = "Bluetooth Audio"
- Sound recording = "your default PC sound card setting; not Bluetooth Audio"

If Sound recording is set to "Bluetooth Audio", this will cause the fast playback error.

I'd be interested to know if W2K users or those on 1.4.2.10 can reproduce the error?

Thank you for the suggested fix untill we (hopefully soon) will have 1.4.2.10. Any rumors about when we will get it for D-Link DBT120?

I just tested you fix. Its true, you dont get the "double-speed" error. Unfortunately at the same time you dont get any recording from the Jabra bt device. I did as you suggested and I could record sound and playback correctly, but it happens that I was recording from the little mike on my laptop and not from the Jabra headset :) :(

Maybe you could doublecheck? Or would there be another way of mapping the original rec. device back to the headset?

Or should we wait till we get 1.4.2.10. :)

J of DK is right - same result for me. Changing the setting to Default (or in my case NVIDIA) changed the recording to the sound processor - in my case didn't record anything because the mic was unplugged. Changing back to Bluetooth and it started recording fine again.

Hum, let me re-check my settings tonight and let you know. I ensured audio was from BT mic since I was also testing range of transmission??

I disabled my PC's mic, but probably forgot to kill the webcam's internal mic during final test of setup above. So, let's try this again:

Connect your headset to PC.

Start XP Sound Recorder.

Go to File | Properties | Convert Now (keep Choose From: set to "All formats").

Select "ADPCM" and make sure sample size is "4 bit".

Select OK and now record.

Playback of voice should be at normal
speed.

This setup will trick the codec to play back at 8 bit. Any codec of 4 bit or less will work. Note this only fixes Sound Recorder. AFAIK, you can't control the audio at this level in Control Panel, so you'll have to play around with the settings for each app.

The bug seems to be isolated only to the recording/playback scenario. I'm not having this problem when using headset with MSN Messenger or Yahoo Messenger or when listening to other audio (e.g. mp3, cd, dvd, etc.).

I called D-Link to report the bug. They've opened a ticket to investigate the problem. No details on a release date of 1.4.2.10.

I was the original poster of this topic.
Seems others have the same problem.
I've been working with TDK in UK to resolve issue.
After many emails and phone calls, finally got it to work properly.
I'm running on XP, with a sony HBH60 headset and TDK 1.4.1 beta fixed the problem.
Also improved audio quality.

I'm using a friend's Belkin with 1.4.2.10. I agree that there's some improvement in quality of playback of audio from mp3, cd, dvd, etc. But, have you tried using your headset with any IM audio/video apps. like Yahoo or MSN Messenger?

I don't see any improvement there. Audio is still constantly broken or fragmented or extremely latent during a conversation. Looks like the adapter still drops packets when converting two streams at the same time (i.e. voice from mic is streaming to PC while voice from PC is streaming to headset). Totally useless!

It reminds me of the older speakerphones where you couldn't hear both sides of the conversation at the same time. Whoever spoke the loudest won!

Let me know if anyone else is experiencing the same.

Fricking Belkin got the 1.4.2.10?! (sorry Belkin ;) )

I'm starting to regret I bought "quality" D-Link.

This driver system really sucks bigtime. Horrible service. Totally nonsense.

I'm tending to now agree with you and change my earlier position. Especially, after I saw a posting pointing to the common OEM delivered to each licensed Widcomm vendor.

The documentation (e.g. manuals, quick installs, phone connectivity guides, etc.) is produced and provided in "editable PDF" by Widcomm. In the case of Belkin's docos, they've added their logo and added their specific product name where Widcomm's documentation refers generally to the hardware as "CSR USB Adapter". Actually missed this in a few places so proofreading wasn't too thorough!!

And don't get your hopes up as to using your BT headset with your P2P app. I downloaded and tested with worse results than MSN or Yahoo Messenger. Audio component of the software (Skype??) seems pretty good (actually seems to be more complex in packet handling than RTSP) which is bad for 1.4.2.10. Audio over BT is rubbish. The audio stream must be either too complex or compressed similar to MP3 where consistent loss of even small packets is unacceptable.

I've only run into one other person attempting the same connection. She has confirmed my findings. Guess, we'll just have to wait until the 1.2 profiles are released around the beginning of next year. :(
