how long is it going to take you to make that box, and if using MDF you're gonna have to seal it too which IME takes longer than the building process.

I wouldnt trust it to hold useful rack things like switches etc with just wood at the front and wood screws into it because of the leverage on things.

Digitus is nothing special anyway, but any rackmount panel has nothing at the back that you can screw down. It has screw holes at the front for mounting to a rack or bracket is recessed behind that, so the screw holes need to standout around 100mm from the back wall at precise spacing plus allow enough in front for patch cables. Also you would need to make the standoffs from a material that allows the panel to be screwed on and off several times with small enough screws to avoid poking them into cables

Better to use the surfacemount panel. Cable exits from the side of the panel and allows a shallower cupboard without squeezing the cables.

Time to find a new industry!

I decided to go for the 10" dynamix stuff.  Seemed to be more flexible with wall hung brackets or cabinets.

I've ordered a 12 port patch panel just gotta wait for it to arrive.

Thanks for all your help so far :)
