Nice, is that the new small 5 port, 4x SFP+ and 1 UTP.

@Tracer, whats the mm fibre run off to?
Cyril
@sparkz25 got it. The switch is brand new, so not in "production" yet. I will have 10GbE to the servers and my desktop machine.
Is it cheaper to get fibre SFP's as opposed to direct attach cables? Or have you got some distance to contend with?

Yep. https://mikrotik.com/product/crs305_1g_4s_in
I look at the 8 port one that's just come out but ultimately it didn't fit the budget. https://mikrotik.com/product/crs309_1g_8s_in

Direct attach would be cheaper, but I wanted to do fiber just because. :D
sparkz25: Depends on what brand and length of copper cable, fs.com do mm fiber leads cheap and sfp's from about 6 usd and shipping is really quick, if its a stocked item in sydney it will ship from sydney,
Exactly that. I have some fs.com SFP+s and I picked some Brocade ones up on TradeMe even cheaper (Mikrotik isn't fussy whose SFPs you put it).
This is the new improved comms cupboard at work for the service department.

Far out... and I suppose they paid money for that...
Such a shame too as with those slimline patch leads you can make things look so good!!

Christ, I'd hate to think what the old unimproved one looked like!

Are you running at 1G or 10G?
The direct attach cables are cheaper than 1G fibre SFP's and a lot cheaper than 10G but are only available in 1m, 3m and 5m lengths.
Keep in mind if it's an RB4011 you will need the active direct attach cable.

Old cabinet was smaller with less connections, but just as untidy.
I think the improvement is that there is now fibre from the main server at the front of the building instead of cable. Haven't done a speed test recently to see if there is an improvement.
I would be rather ashamed to put my name to that installation.

Here's my Comms cupboard. Looking at the other pictures has made me realise that I really need to tidy it up a bit.
POE switch powering 2 E400 access points, a raspberry pi 4 that runs openhab & my weather station software, a chromecast in the bedroom and a router that is in the living room (I should really move this back to the comms cupboard). I have a Uniden 2 line cordless phone that I combine the power and two phone lines from the ATA and send down the network connection so it is also backed up by the ups.
The POE swtich has 2 multimode fibre connections to the main switch using IEEE 802.3ad because, why not?

Clearly that guy has no idea how to cable for data and tv! that's actually quite bad!
It also looks like that conduit that enters the PowerPoint is the wrong size for that 25mm adapter, and I would hope that the cabinet is earthed or there is some form of insulating material behind that PowerPoint.
