Hi Guys

I'm wondering if I could have your assistance please. I like to get a handle on pricing for a Cat6 network installation in small office environment. Here is a summary:

Terminated onto a Cat6 24-port patch panel are:

6 x Dual Cat6 Outlets
1 x Quad Cat6 Outlets

1 x Cat6 running from the Voie DP and terminated onto the Patch Panel.

I know that the above is like asking "how long is a piece of string", however I thought that we might be able to apply some logic to it in the form of average cost per outlet or something similar.

Any help would be appreciated!

Can you give us a layout of the rooms and information about the wall's etc. Any crawl space under or suspended ceiling?

This is a bit of a tricky one, so I am looking for the "average" or what a QS might budget.

For example I see this from Indeserve:

However I am unsure if this is a single outlet or a dual, and if it is single what a dual would cost!

That will be a single outlet, where about's in NZ are you? A dual could cost around $300 - $350...

What is QS??

I'm based in Gisborne.

Holy moly that is high for that number of outlets unless there was some crazy long and difficult runs??
Did that price include a switch or any other hardware?

Hmmm... this is what I thought.

The runs were 20 - 30M each, and as I said all the outlets were Category 6 including the 24 port patch panel. All outlets were tested and it was in an existing building (historic) so the runs probably took a little more time than say in an office where you just run them up in a suspende ceiling.

Looking at what Indeserve charge, it seemed in the ball-park, but maybe not?

$6,500 / 17 outlets = $382 per outlet???

You can now see why I am after some budget figures.

A 24 port CAT6 patch panel costs about $100 so that's nothing really.
You shouldn't really be paying more than about $1/m for CAT6 cable so 30M x 17 = $510.

I've just done a job recently in an existing building that was getting re-fitted. They wanted 6 duals and a needed a panel as there wasn't one currently there.
It involved getting down existing walls without breaking the gib all in a small space and then a couple of longer runs out through the warehouse up high in steel perlins.
Price was $1800. This didn't include a tie to the demarc and was a cheap open frame cabinet. But it was molex gear and was certified with molex for the standard 50 year warrenty. Why they wanted it certified I do not know, but i guess that is councils for you.
The 4 duals were all nice and close and the walls were big high 6x2's so was really easy to drill down as you had 6" to play with not 4" - just needed a few more extensions than normal lol. and obviously there was a suspended ceiling. Two of us were there for only one and a bit days. I personally think the price was a bit on the cheap side for molex gear - a patch panel is $200-odd!
You need to look at how many guys they had working. How long it took. What gear was used. Obstacles they had to over come. And was the bill directly from the cabling company or from a third party who probably clipped the ticket?
